    Default i remember now

why i have uninstalled the game... its *NG cheating as hell and im starting to hate it again.

im really pissed right now, after a 1+ hour battle the last enemy unity was a shaken, exhausted camel archer group, something around 39 soldiers without arrows.unfortunatly they were still running away from my foot troops. my only cavalry was my general, 21 fresh, experienced soldiers with an armor and weapon upgrade. i ordered them to charge the archers while i was on the top of a hill. the downhill attack should support my cavalry.

my troops managed it to attack the archers from a flank and 3 seconds later half of the general bodyguards were dead and my general was fleeing. they only managed it to kill 5 to 6 archers and lost more then 11 soldiers.

how the hell could that happen? ok, they were twice as much but they were a completly exhausted and shaken group of archers without shields against my best and fresh general.

maybe i will have to restart the campaign. currently im playing it on H/H guess i will have more fun with a H campaign and M battles.

Horses and camels don't mix at all. The smell scares the horses. i.e. the game gives a bonus to camel units fighting horses. Was the general actually charging? Sometimes they can be running but not in the actual charge, so obviously no charge bonus.

Diomede is correct. Horses suffer a large morale penalty against camels. In reality horses won't go near camels unless specially trained, and if they are down-wind they can be spooked by the smell from quite a distance. If the horses were outnumbered two to one then it's not so surprising that they panicked.

Terrain can also make a big difference. In scrub (the low vegetation you see on the battlefield in some places), or sand, the camels will also have a big advantage.

ok, that was something i didnt know, but im still a bit peeved. guess i will need more camel troops.

one more question, is there a way to change the camel archer behavior? currently they stay in the skirmish mode even if they run out of arrows. they wont attack me and run from my infantry, it takes hours to pin them down in a corner, especially if you play with slow movement.

Which faction are you playing? The easiest solution is a couple of units of javelin cavalry. Hold the cavalry in reserve until the camels run out of ammo and then stick them full of javelins.

first i want to apologize for my outbreak in the first post.

im playing the kingdom of saba. i will recruit some archers and javelin cavalry before attacking again. or i will start a new campaing as the roman empire (once again) to feel l33t again.

That faction is going to be a rough haul all the way...their troops are inferior just about every step of the way to either the Ptolemys or Seluecids.

Saba is a hard campaign, but quite different from the others so it can be fun. You probably won't get that l33t feeling too often though.

I dunno, there's something awesome about pwning a force twice your size at a bridge crossing.

Oh yeah, Rome, enemies of everyone. All must submit to it or die. Really I kid you not, Rome refuse to accept defeat after the last time in 300's BC, ever since everyone it fought either end up as its allies for good or wiped out. (Rebellious allies get wiped out too )

I agree with Hurlbut-the romans where either enemies or allies.
