How i can gain?

How i can gain experience to my troops?
Once my VIII cohort killed 708 enemies and no experience.
Once my cavalry killed 1674 enemies and no experience.
What is going on?

Kill more? LArger the cohort, more kills you need. Also killing nubtard enemies doesnt help. Killing gold chevron guys help. And with your upgraded cohorts, you gonna take a while.

But after every battle is send them back to Italy to retrain.

If you keep your armies in the field longer between retraining they will gain experience quicker, since its fewer men in the units. Then when you retrain the unit, the new recruits will keep the same standard... Not very realistic, but its how the mechanics of the game works

this is exactly why i always train new units and send them to the legion, i will usually merge the experienced ones together and replace the gaps with new units

Which means your way is uberslow on gaining exp.

Retraining sometimes takes experience off the unit too. I retrain the units for one reason - like the veterans pass their experience on the new recruits. But usually after the fighting, I am down to like 4-8 cohorts, so it doesnt really matter I think.
