ok, i found another way to mod through alpaca's folder. however it only works in the test run. when i copy and paste the export_descr_unit file back into the regular data folder, everything plays as it always does as if i havent modded anything. (i made tlaxcalan mercenaries available for spain)

so, how do i make the game read the mods i made?

http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=76099 theres the link. if it doesnt work, just search MOD FOLDER INSTALLER

Try my "Bare Kingdoms" tutorial\installer. Does the same thing. If you use only the medieval2.exe intead of the kingdoms.exe, the you have to delete the mods\bare_kingdoms\data\sounds\event files and replace them with the files from the med2\data\sounds folder.

i tried it and it worked pretty well, but it didn't work when i copied it into the regular folder. i guess it would be alright just playing it through your test run file. but do you know where i can find the script for spanish dragoons, new world bodyguard, and crossbowmen to put them in the test file? the main goal here is to be able to use these in cinematic editor on custom battles. is there a way to edit the kingdoms script? because i cant find the export_descr_unit in the kingdoms folder. the main thing I want to do is just make tlaxcalan mercenaries and tlaxcalan archers available in custom battles on kingdoms. that should be pretty simple. i was gonna use cinematic editor and all to make some battle movies.

You need to unpack the campaign and then in EDU add the faction name in the ownership line.

yea, i did that for the vanilla, but it didn't work (it works, but the units don't change). i unpacked everything. when i start the game through clicking your exe file, the units do change and work. so, I'm not sure why. but i will just try to do what you said for kingdoms. if i can accomplish that, i wont care about vanilla.

btw how do i unpack americas. i cant find where to edit expansion factions. thanks.

and how do i create a batch file out of nowhere. i skipped that step because i couldn't figure out how. thanks again.

If you have kingdoms installed, then you should have a batch file in the tools\unpacker folder named: unpack_americas
Using (double clicking\running) this file will unpack the campaign into it's mod folder.

Please read the ReadMe file in the unpacker folder about deleting the geography files.

For changes to show up in your modifications, you will have to create a batch file and a configuration file that will be placed in the mods\americas directory. to make you r life easier, I have made those files for you, all you have to do is to unpack the two files into your mods\americas folder and create a desktop short to the "executive" file.

Edit: unpack the unpack_americas file into the unpacker folder and run it.
