    Default Steam Induced Difficulties

Alright, I've been at this for two days. I've scoured the forum top to bottom for solutions, tried all of them, and still haven't gotten anywhere.

After changing things around I've noticed that all the things I downloaded (Part 1/2 and the Patch) all seems to have similar folders. It's gotten really confusing because I've lost track of what goes where.

When I tried installing everything into the normal SEGA/Medieval II/so on so forth I could only run the mod by naming the SS folder as one of the kingdoms campaigns. Even then, only the custom battles worked (and there were also a number of textures missing, treating me to white block substitutes), and every time I tried to load a campaign I'd always crash with an unspecified error.

I tried installing everything into the steamapps/medievalii/mods and that just plain doesn't work. I tried the renaming trick and I just get more unspecified errors.

I appreciate anyone's help and patience with these problems, as I suspect there are more than one.

    Edit:

    I tried this solution:

    hello,

I think that something should be added to the faq, for steam users

I installed M:TWII Kingdoms yesterday and decided to have a go at stainless steel

but the game would keep crashing on startup with a fatal error, even though I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions correctly

I searched the forums for similar reports, and came across this post of asuhdds (this thread)

Launch the game directly from Steam, don't use the SS shortcut.

I haven't deleted any .exe, doesn't sound like a good idea to me

but instead I simply renamed kingdoms.exe to launcher.exe like he says, and of course I added @mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg to the game's launch options in steam

    now it works fine

But I get another error from Steam saying the game is "not available at this time".

If you are using steam it's probabaly because steam uses a different file setup to the one you mentioned.

But if you are talking about very annoying difficulties (as in so annoying that steam comes out if your ears) then i'm afraid I don't knwo whats going wrong.

For future reference to find mwt2 in steam go to program files/steam/steamapps/

Had the exact same problem as you- i told steam to verify the game files after i installed 6.0 then the 6.0-6.2, it installed 4 files then when i moved launcher.exe to my desktop and renamed the kingdoms.exe it worked.

Where did you install the Stainless Steel 6.0? In the steamapps/common/medievalii or in Sega/MedievalII ?

And you installed 6.2, not 6.1?

Edit: Have you tried this with RR/RC as well?

Alright, I've gotten a few developments here:

SS 6.0 (and nothing else) is installed in steamapps/common/medievaliitotalwar/mod alongside the 4 kingdoms campaigns.

    With the
@mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg adjustment to the Steam launch options I can run the mod. However, as before, only custom games work. I get a CTD (no error messages or anything of the sort) when I try to start a campaign. In the custom games, I can see a few textures are missing: the windows such as "Start Battle", "Start Deployment" and the Battle Report are all white squares, as are the fatigue and current orders icons on the unit cards. The UI in general has changed properly, as have the actual model skins and unit cards themselves.

Edit: I've successfully installed 6.1 as well, but I'm still running into the above mentioned problem with the campaign CTD and missing textures.

Edit 2: Further progress! I successfully installed the BYG/RC/RR compilation hotfix doobly do, and now I can run campaigns. HOWEVER: I'm still experiencing crippling difficulties with the UI. There are still numerous white boxes and missing textures.

I installed it into the steam directory and used the 6.0 complete install then the 6.1-2 complete install. Try delete your launch.exe then tell steam to verify your files, i'm fairly certain theres some missing files that help it work. I've been playing for nearly a week now and besides 3 freezes i've had no problems at all.

You have to point the SS installer to the common/m2tw/ folder not the common/m2tw/mods folder. The mod conatins folders/files that go in the vanilla m2tw folder and not just the mods folder.

I did this and whenever I started from the SS launcher, it goes to M2TW launcher, so I select Stainless Steel and then it says Medieval II suffered a fatal error and will now exit. What am I doing wrong?
