At this stage, I'd probably wait for Napoleon.
I would suggest you wait for Napoleon. Empire was a rushed game that had boatloads of potential but CA totally half assed it. Browse the Empire General forum it will explain everything.
If you want a campaign lasting more than 7 years and with a map in Europe that doesn't leave out half the important territories in the wars the whole bloody game is based upon, I'd say ETW.
Napoleon put a fair amount of effort into getting the Ottoman Empire to war with Russia for a time, aswell as into the Middle East in general. Napoleon may not have fought any campaigns in Turkey itself but that doesn't make it irrelevant. A massive and protracted war between the Ottoman Empire and Russia could have prevented Napoleon's catastrophic offensive into Russia that destroyed his army for instance. If the Ottoman Empire were to be included, North Africa would likewise be made more important aswell. As for Scandinavia, I can't say I know much of it's history at that time... I'm sure it probably has it's own reasons for being relevant too, though it wasn't where i was refering to in my first post![]()

Yeah, and Napoleon used American money from the Louisiana Purchase by the US to help fund his war effort. It doesn't mean North America should be in Napoleon total war. Britain also went to war with the US during the time of Napoleon but, once more, it doesn't mean America should be in Napoleon total war.

yes yes, Ottomans' role in the Napoleonic wars is very similar to the American's, except that the Ottomans did really fight Napoleon, and later on formed an alliance with him, fighting 2 of Napoleon's great enemies, Russia and GB. comparing the Ottoman's role in the Napoleonic wars, to the American is really not smart.
i am not trying to pick a side here, but the Ottomans, along with Spain and Portugal could've been a great add.

"Egyptians; to the young rebels, and to every one who was killed, bloodied or contributed in the simplest way, what you did has defied any description. you have the world on it's knees gazing at your bravery and determination. you have opened up a new chapter in Egyptian history, one that will be determined by people's love for this country" - an honorable revolutionary,
As the others said, get NTW, but I'd wait until you see what people here write about it, don't get it at release day and definitely don't base your purchase on any reviews.
On release

Napoleon! It's far better

It is, you say? Have you tried it already or do you say this just because Wallachia seems to be in the game?
I suggest not buying N:TW at all until the community confirms it's a good game or they release modding tools. As for E:TW, it's not really worth buying... If you need a good game right now I suggest Football Manager 2010 or something.

This is the important part. It all depends on how realistic you like things to be. Empires have cannons that never run out of ammo (which I think affects tactics), sieges have men climb Star forts with grappling hooks and sloops can take on SOLs. There are more unrealistic stuff and historically unrealistic stuff.
I`d wait for Napoleon in your case. I`m too late as I already have Empires and I`m not forking out for Empires mk.2.
I would say wait for Napoleon but I'm not too sure. As far as I know it will still use steam which is tipping me against getting it.

I'd say wait for Napoleon, or rather, wait a little longer until you read the community reviews and the first mods start appearing. Then you'll be able to get a better picture of how the game will develop.
I'm afraid that Empire is a dead end: once NTW is released, the Empire community will move to NTW. Just like you can't expect any more patches/fixes for ETW, there won't be new mods and there will be nobody left in ETW multiplayer.
Logically speaking, NTW should be the better game since it is a development of ETW. But there is no way to know for sure until it is actually released.
napoleon should be waht empire wasn't. either way wait till NTW is release and ETW will probably go on sale or see a price drop.
looks for me etw on disguise and no tools just more dlc's :p
Common sense removed due being Disruptive.
Darthmod released a new Ultimate Commander Edition. Ties in all the major mods and ofcourse darthvaders good AI. Im having a blast with it right now. Makes ETW and entirely new game to me
i would wait for Napoleon, and see how it turns out.
i think Napoleon's gameplay will be better than Empire, but i am not sure if it will be good enough to only deal with 5 factions, and a map focused on a part of europe. if u can live with that, then go ahead with Napoleon.

The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.![]()
I'd get both, actually. Napoleon appears to be the better game, but even so, Empire was still fantastic and the greatest total was thus far. In the end, the decision is what time and style do you like better (Wars in Europe, Frederick the Great, Marlborough, American Revolution, and a more free flowing, traditional TW vs. a more confined total war based primarily about the military campaigns of Napoleon with a high degree of excellence).
