    Default Vista Sound Issue...

Hey guys. So I've got DLV installed and patched up for Vista for the first time. I'm not getting any sounds when I click on Icons in the main menu....No 'Boom'. Never had this problem with XP, Could this be a Vista issue?

God, I hate Vista. My computer refuses to reload XP for some reason and upgrading to 7 is not in the budget at the moment.... Bummer.

I can't believe the hoops I had to jump through just to get it working at all...

Reinstalled DLV when I noticed the issue... Kingdoms has the 'boom' sounds but DLV 6.0 does not...

Anybody got any ideas about what's going on?

You can try reinstalling and running m2tw between each patch or mod. I suspect that if someone installs 6 then 6.2 then BB without launching 6 or 6.2 then they might have this problem, no idea why.

Yea, I think it was a corrupt download cause I'm getting CTD when it goes to battle screen. Checking it out.

But Vista is really a nightmare

Hey, I've had Vista for over a year or even more, and no problem at all. I guess it's a microscopic error with your download or the install procedure...

If it was a corrupt download then the installer shouldn't work at all. My money is on the installation procedure. Something to do with not including the sound files but instead letting them be built on the first launch of the program. Possibly we do it this way because of the way we cater for non-english versions. I have no idea really, but I've seen it reported 5 or 6 times by now (and it's happened to me). Launching the game after 6 and 6.2 seems to garauntee that it works when BB is loaded up.

I had the same issue when first regenerating the sound files for Europa (because of the edited descr_sounds_accents file). You need to place the sound pack files' (available as a download from TWC) export_descr_sounds_units_voice into the DLV/data folder and then delete the dat & idx files from the DLV/data/sounds folder (they will rebuild when you next run the game).

A question, Do we overwrite the existing DLV files with the ones from this download?

    No.

Only use the export_descr_sounds_units_voice txt. and remember to back the old one up first.

Mac-Picsou, you can fix the problem by reinstalling 6.0, then launch the program to make sure sound is working.

Then you install 6.2 and again launch the program to check the sound.

Then you can install BB and everything should be working perfectly.

Many people and have had this problem, including myself, and the install process I describe here fixes it

People, this IS the solution, I had the same problem before but now, after folliwing this instructions, I've added about 100 new songs twice 'in two cultures' and it works perfectly...

When you first launch DLV the sound files are built. Is there anything about your operating system that might interfere with that?

I have windows XP but I hear that Vista and 7 have unecessary protection mechanisms that might mess around with files a program generates.

If you have an up to date windows XP then I'd try reinstalling with no antivirus or firewall software enabled.

Just installed MTW2 with DLV 6.2 today and I have the same problem. Music runs fine, but some sound fx is missing. (marching, firing cannons and arrows...) I will try to reinstall MTW2 and DLV with launching after each update and see if this fix the problem.

I´m using vista and my sound is not working correctly even with dlv6.0. Some sound fx are working on the campaign map and in battles but some are gone. Can a vista user tell me how he got all sound fx working with dlv6.0?

I'm also getting no sound on 6.0. I downloaded DLV twice....( it took up most of last weekend ) I'm going to follow the advice you guys posted since I started the thread. I'm actually relieved that I'm not the only one... that makes me confident I can get it working.

Question: Did any of you guys also re-download DLV lately? Because if so then maybe it is a 'microscopic' corrupted download.

I can tell you one thing, I won't be modding my Irish project until I can upgrade to 7... Vista makes it really hard... The way it organizes the files is completely retarded

I'm a DLV addict..... I'm getting the shakes
