The advent of the Total War series was a revelation!
There have been some great & not so great since, but of the 'vanillas' I particularly like RTW & Med2
Unfortunately, I have never played Med1 so that is an unknown for me.
Whilst I am no historian, I do love history & am a great believer in historical accuracy.
That said there has to be a compromise with gameplay.
It is a mistake to bog a game down in the minutiae at the cost of the players interest & enjoyment.
My opinion is that the graphics, modelling, sound & scripting should all gel to give a coherent immersive game environment
that has a plausible & believable aura.
( Oh no!....Get those damn wardogs out of here & get those flaming pigs on to the barbecue, please?
Yes, I know you only have one good arm, but please just do your best!.............. Thank you! )
    Sorry about that!....Where was I?
    Ah yes.
I have RTW patched to 1.5 + BI + Alex.
The computer I run is a 3.0 Gig Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core with a
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
One of my current campaigns is using RS1.6 on Alex base. It took a little nerfing, but it appears to be running well.
Marcus asked for 5 or 6 screenshots from me. Well, I have never done that before, but I have just installed FRAPS & seem to have it working OK.
Don't expect any developing campaign shots as I have only installed it about half an hour ago!! :00
I have cut it down from 20 odd to 8. :0)
Instead I will give you another first for me, an AAR.
My objective here is to weaken enemy forces to the west of Mediolanum, using my admitedly outnumbered forces from Genoa.
Best case scenario, I wipe out their forces and march on to take Mediolanum. ( Highly optimistic!)
A viable objective is to destroy enemy forces to the west of Mediolanum.
This weakens the enemy & will force them to withdraw troops threatening Bononia away to the west or risk losing Mediolanum.
Worst case, at least I will have eroded the enemy's strength around Mediolanum, and at least I can retrain. :0/

I sent out the inexperienced, untalented & disposable Cassius Maxentius at the head of a well trained & blooded small army based in Genoa.
This left Genoa very poorly defended, so this had to be a quick strike.
The enemy outnumbered us by almost 2:1 but they were mostly low grade troops.
They charged us over the entire front.

After early skirmishing on our left flank between our Equites, supported by a unit of Principes, & their Noble cavalry; our troops were heavily engaged
across the entire front and our General fell.
Fortunately, our troops nerve held, and morale was boosted when shortly after the enemy commander was also slain.
Fighting intensified to a point where two units of our finest troops were forced back to back grimly butchering the barbarians.

Then the tide began to turn in our favour. A valiant charge by a weary unit of Velites to the flank of a barbarian spear unit already engaged with our
battered Principes on the right flank was enough to cause a rout.

This freed up the Principes to advance to assist in the centre.

The following assault to the rear of the already engaged enemy by the Principes, was enough to break them.

Victory soon followed. I was a little miffed at the Average Victory assesment, but I felt a lot better when the commander was awarded
Man of the Hour and made into a 2 star general. I now had a significantly better General than I started out with.

Sorry if this rambled on a bit! ;0)
I am conscious of it & do try to control this trait. :0)
In closing, I just want to say, I think you are doing a first rate job with this mod. & I would like to assist you in any way I am able.
My historical knowledge is not great, but I do have a keen eye for detail.

Yes, he's been following RS progress for quite a while, and has been a regular poster. His maturity helps too

The only thing that I can't see is that they are not a regular poster in the 'show your empires' thread - at least recently.

Apart from that they certainly appear to qualify.
