    Default Army composition with autoresolve.

    Hi, I´m playing with Byzantium in a hotseat for Kingdoms: Crusades and I was wondering what the best army compositions are regarding autoresolve. I know that in RTW horsearchers were severely handicapped in autoresolve and chariots were insanely overpowered. Are there similar things I should keep in mind?

    Varangian Guard, cataphractoi, dismounted latinkon ..

    Surely do NOT good for autoresolve: Byzantine infantry, byzantine spearman, dismounted lancers, HA, byzantine lancers, ..

    Strange but true autoresolve always works better with full stack (heavy) infantry instead of with many cavalry ..

    Another tip for losing as less as possible soldiers with autoresolve:

    As you can see there will always more units get killed in your army wich are put left above. So make sure your cavalry is always listed at the end right of your 20 slots.
    (FOR EXAMPLE: inf inf inf inf inf inf inf inf inf inf
    inf arch arch cav cav cav cav cav cav cav)

    I always put mercenaries at the left, then my strongest infantry, then my weaker infantry, then my archers & then my cavalry (light cavaly whole at the end)

    Then besides the greater movement range, full cavalry armies have no significant advantage over infantry armies?

    No, and it takes too much time to retrain your cavalry army (especially heavy cavalry like cataphractoi, ..)

    It's far better to have a full stack army with all infantry units halved by all the fighting then having your cavalry army having halved (because you lose the whole cavalry unit faster then).

    And even if cavalry autoresolve would be better in autoresolve, you still lose them too quickly and too much.

    For example autoresolve cavalry: 30 -> 22 -> 14 -> 6 -> 0
    Infantry: 60 -> 52 -> 44 -> 36 -> 28 -> 20

    When fighting with cavalry you're always carefull to lose not too many soldiers (especially when you have silver or golden stripes) but with autoresolve the AI doesn't care ..

    Which is stronger in autoresolve?

    1.- army of 5 town militia units of 120 men each

    2.- army of 10 town militia units of 60 men each ??

    Well there's no way to do that without changing the unit size and so then the 10 units are definitely better.

    Yes there is a way, sorry if I did not make myself clear: in the middle of a campaing you have an army of 10 units that has been into battles before, so its units have been halved. Then you face an enemy army of 5. Is it wiser to unite your army in 5 complete units or let them like that and be 10 halved units?

    If it's a percentage thing, everything would probably level up. And since TW is all about percentage, I'd think the result would be the same with halved and full units.
