Will this one FINALLY have the much missed family tree/playable family members and etc that a lot of people have missed?

I doubt it, because it is a Napoleon themed game but....yeah I have not been keeping up with the info for this game at all so as not to get my expectations up and be all "wtf is this?" when I get it. Like with ETW. So I figure it would not hurt to ask.

It wasn't in ETW. They put one in, and apparently there were going to be playable family members and an heir system etc....but they took it out. The code for it is in the game, but it's not activated and etc.

It was in ETW, just made by a modder, and that cool mod stopped working after patch 1.3 or something. And still isn't offficialy. Hope Ca will bother to edit some tiny hex sentences in NTW, though.

Well, Napoleon, the French Emperor, will be on the battlefield, but I think this will be the only exception. Monarchs didn't fight in that time anymore, they became just silly fat dudes drank of power.

It would still be nice to have other family members fight though, because they did. Not the monarchs. Although, I do remember a certain Swedish monarch did fight and died from a bullet wound

I know it was made by a modder, but it was made by him via files he found hidden in the ETW code. So CA wanted to put those features in but I guess they ran out of time or couldn't be bothered. So...my hopes are not all that high.

Yep, but Charles XII of Sweden lived at the start of the ETw era (early 1700s). Of course Bernadotte, the king of Sweden after 1810, fought too, but he was a former French marshal...And the Archduke Charles of Austria. There coould be kings and ministers that appear on the GC map and if they die there, they are counted as "wounded and unable to fight again", just as CA said they did with Napoleon, but I don't think CA will remove Nappie's unicity

Yes, it is needed because it adds more depth and immersion to the game. I can't tell you how greatly the game was improved for me with the feature of a family tree and etc in RTW and MTW. And I do believe you will be able to continue the game even after you beat the GC. Like in previous TW games.

The GC runs from 1805 to 1812, seven years. What sort of familiy tree does make sense there? I rather would like they make more factions playable.

For an unknown reason, Ca said the game will end in 1812, with no possibility to continue. This is no good.

Maybe not a family tree per se, but a similar overview of the key characters of several factions in the campaign would certainly be a nice addition, I think. Napoleon liked to put his best buddies on the throne of puppet states, like his brother Joseph and later Marshal Murat as Kings of Naples. And marriages still played an important part in European politics then.

Empire didn't have one, the good old one is what we want. Empire stills feels like somebody took the franchise and made a spinoff. It's just convenient for CA that Napoleon, built on Empire, doesn't need one either.

Imagine a possible Rome 2 having no family tree, now that would be a riot.
Unless it's called Caesar: Total War... but that's not so funny is it

    ^ I agree....

And to be fair, I did not know that the game "ends, ends" in 1812....I thought you would be able to continue like in other TW games. But as I said I was not reading at all about NTW so that I would get my hopes up like with ETW and then play it for the the first and just go "wtf is this?". I am highly considering not even buying Napoleon. My loss, but I am willing to suffer it.

If it's true about the game only lasting a period of seven years then I don't think it's necessary to have a family tree.
The option did make sense in Medieval II in that you had nearly 500 years worth of history to play with, and several generations would live and die during that period. It also made sense in the way that Royalty would often engage on the battlefield during this period, with men such as Richard the Lionheart, Edward I, Henry V, and Edward the Black Prince being notable examples.
Sometimes that might have been true in the 18th century (Frederick the Great anyone?), but it was not as common as it had been during the Middle Ages. Most Kings and Emperors of the period would have sat far away from the front lines in their palaces, and so it would make less sense to have a Royal family tree as they wouldn't really feature as controllable units in the campaign or battle mode.

This feature is harder to explain in Rome as the Republic wasn't a feudal government or a monarchy where power would be passed from father to son (adopted or otherwise). So who knows it might be included in Napoleon (although I doubt it) as its inclusion in Rome wasn't based on historical accuracy.

I remember someone asked about this on ETW prior release, and it became a bit of a joke about ETW becoming a sims game with 18th century sims kissing/royalty and matchmaking.

Although I think being able to select from different candidates for matches /weddings is a pretty good idea, granted it has more benefits than simply offering visual response.

Maybe bonuses based on differing family lines/traits would add to this.
