    Default legionary_name and generals

Here's an idea that I had, and I wonder if it is possible. I want to create a general unit (tercio_general), that has the legionary_name property. Would it be possible for this unit to have a generic unit card and information image, replacing the portrait card? And would the legionary_name property even work for a general unit?

General with legionary_name properties I haven't heard of yet. Why don't you try what happens and report back?
Don't think your idea with the unit card will work.

You are correct, the unit card idea did not work. But here are the results, and I found some issues. I didn't add any text information to the /text/export_units.txt, but I did enter "{Leon_Legion}Tercio de Leon" in /text/imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt, and I do not know why it is simply listed as Legio I "Leon", unless custom Legio names do not work in M2TW. Is the unit card image hard-coded to use a family portrait?

    EDIT:

To clarify, in data\world\maps\base\descr_regions.txt, I put

    Leon_Province
    legion: Leon_Legion
    Leon
    spain
    Iberian_Rebels
    13 157 198
    coal, wool, atlantic, explorers_guild, knights_of_santiago_chapter_house, tercio_of_leon
    5
    4
    religions { catholic 90 orthodox 0 islam 0 pagan 10 heretic 0 }

    and in data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt, I put

    {Leon}Leon
    {Leon_Province}Leon Region
    {Leon_Legion}Tercio de Leon

I am not certain why it didn't label the Legion as "Legio I Tercio de Leon."

May be it should be "Legion: Leon_Legion" and that way the game is reading the second "Legion" as command and makes the next entry "Leon" the legionary_name.

    {Leon_Legion}Tercio de Leon
That should have worked. Was the string.bin file regenerated? If in doubt, simply delete.

    This worked for me:

    Gotland
    legion: Gotland_Legion
    Visby

    {Gotland}Gotland
    {Visby}Visby
    {Gotland_Legion}Gotland Haufen

The strings.bin file is being regenerated, but it still is just giving "Legio I Leon", even after I changed descr_regions to "legion:Tercio_de_Leon" and imperial...names.txt to "{Tercio_de_Leon}Tercio de Leon". I don't understand why it is throwing this problem.

Beats me. Maybe add the Legion bit to the database?

    legion: Legion_Tercio_de_Leon

    {Legion_Tercio_de_Leon}Tercio de Leon

I tried that, and even with a generic infantry unit, and it didn't work. It still displayed Legio I Leon. Is there something that I am missing?

Upload data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt and the string.bin file both. I will have a look. Maybe it is a formatting thing with the txt file.

Sometimes it helps to take a working txt file, delete everything except the first line with the funny sign.
Then copy over everything except the first line from the txt file that doesn't work.

The uploader rejected imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt.strings.bin, so I put it in an .rar archive.

I fingered the two files with the BinEditor from GIMP (make backups!!). Have a look if it works now.
Are you using kingdoms or medieval?

I'm afraid it is still just displaying "Legio I Leon". Is there something else in /data/ or the subfolders that would affect this? Is it possible that at some point in my meddling in the files that I could have done something to change this, or is the legionary_name system affected only by data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt and data\world\maps\base\descr_regions.txt?

    Only those two files.

Why don't you try it with a different city or different name of the legion?

It didn't work for the Holy Roman Empire as well, the "Bologna Tercio" showed up as "Legio I Bologna", the Vienna and Nuremburg Tercios as well.

It's just Medieval. I uninstalled Kingdoms because it took up too much space.

That could be the reason. The medieval2.exe is most likely not properly set up for it.

If you want to use the improvements of kingdoms, you don't have to install all campaigns. Simply install one only. That updates med2 and installs the kingdoms.exe
