Default Essential Modding Tools And Programs

I'm making a list of currently released modding tools and the required programs for unit editing, model editing and file conversions.

Anyway, i'll post this somewhere else (walkthroughs)

    1. TiME v0.5 - Trivium independant Map Editor

    Current features:
    Height editing
    Ground type editing
    Full region and settlement editing
    Different brush sets
    Undo/Redo
Overlays of region borders, cities, ground types, map features, characters
    Edit climates
    Character (record) editing
    Textured terrain
    Resource editing
    Create new campaign
    Resize campaign (enlarging)
    Mercenary polls
    Extended comments
Faction and nearly all descr_strat settings
    Descr_terrain edit ability

    Important notes
In v0.5 you can now create a campaign from scratch. This means, that the editor creates the necessary files for a new campaign and you can begin to edit these new files inside the editor. But be aware that the campaigns may not work because of missing family trees and other missing stuff which can not yet be edited with the editor.

Some crucial information about the map editor, which isn't included in the readme file:

    1) The first startup there comes a directory browser, select your Rome directory. If you get errors that "export_descr_buildings.txt" or "descr_rebel_factions.txt" is not found, the path is wrong. (This worked as I see)

    2) Click open and select a campaign. Here you can't select your Rome directory, because there are no campaign files.
Also do not select the world\maps\base directory, there are only half of the campaign files needed because it's Rome's internal Imperial Campaign. You have to copy the files from base and campaign\imperial_campaign in one (new) directory. Put this directory in the campaign folder and open this folder with the editor. In Rome you can play the campaign under "provincial campaign".

If you get any errors while loading, it is likely that the editor doesn't work right. (Some data is not loaded, when the editor tries to access it). This may cause the engine.dll error.

It allows you to change some of the options in saved game files once you have started
playing the game. For example, if you are well into a campaign and found it too easy, or too
hard, with RomeSAGE you can change the campaign or battle difficulty in your saved game file.

RomeSAGE currently supports the following options:

    o Campaign difficulty

Default Editing tool kdiff3 for txt files

Guys While surfing the WEB I found this handy tool for editing those txt files.

    kdiff3
    Location: Home Page Kddiff3

Say you just modded the descr_strat and the game crashes. Ya wonder what the heck did I do wrong. I ussally keep a sperate data folder called safe with the originals. I start Kdiff3, loaded modded descr_strat and load the original descr_strat. With this progaram I can now comapre both files. It will show where the differences are buy comparing line by line comparison. Makes it easy to find mistakes.

This tool can also merge the two files into a new file. Say you like a certain mod but there are other featers in another mod. You just load the modded txt files for each type files, such as
export_descr_unit mod 1 and load export_descr_unit mod 2 and set the program for merge. you will get both modded files dispalyed line by line and where they differ also a merge file which dispalys where conflects between the files occur. Wher the comflects take play, you can now use mod 1 or mod 2 to replace the conflect line in the merged file. This can be saved as the new export_descr_unit txt file.

Frome the site about Kdiff 3
    KDiff3 is a program that

compares or merges two or three text input files or directories,
shows the differences line by line and character by character (!),
    provides an automatic merge-facility and
an integrated editor for comfortable solving of merge-conflicts,
supports Unicode, UTF-8 and other codecs,
supports KIO on KDE (allows accessing ftp, sftp, fish, smb etc.),
and has an intuitive graphical user interface.

I hope this tool helps all you modders

I just downloaded the map editor. It's cool, but confusing. How do I put in a new province???
