    Default Brown Squares?

This is a purely cosmetic issue, but I notice that for any custom settlement icon on the campaign map that isn't big enough, there's a weird brown square that the ownership flag pops out from. It's most noticeable at Black Gate, where clicking the gate itself doesn't actually do anything, but it's also visible at Isengard, Barad Dur, Minas Tirith if you look closely, and all orc and elvish settlements.

I'm not really complaining about this, so much as wondering...what is it, exactly?

As for future icons, I recommend just having some raised textures that cover it up (Ie, little patches of black terrain for Black Gate). It worked for Edoras, Osgiliath, Minas Morgul, and Erebor, after all

The brown square is the location where the model should be on, that is, where the model's center is. To construct authentic settlement models it sometimes requires to place the visible parts on the borders of the space reserved for the model. For example Helm's Deep and Black Gate only have a wall, whereas all vanilla models cover most of the space. I don't know why the custom models are not made to cross over the center of the space where the flag is.

Yeah, here's hoping they cover those things up by the final release. Wouldn't be difficult, just some grassy colours, charred earth for black gate and orc settlements, maybe gardens for isengard (or more charred earth... the gardens weren't around long even in the movie.... they'd just look nicer)

I'm quite sure the brown square cannot be textured. You can only extend the model on it to cover the brown area.

But couldn't you just make a modell that icludes some "ground" fitting to it? That way it would really cover the whole tile, but look as if it would cover only a part...

EDIT: I just relooked the new preview and saw that KK seems to have done something like this... no brown square at the Black Gate anymore! Great! So I guess this thread has fulfilled its purpose with this...

Yep, the squares are no more.

I'm glad we've "squared" this out. Omg, I'm so funny it hurts!

    Oh yeah, closed.

I bet it wouldn't be too hard to make a piece for the model to cover the brown square, with a texture matching that of the surrounding landscape.
