sorry for the dumb question it's been awhile.

1.5 is OK on RTW gold

    I just installed BI
I had a problem playing B.I. i guess the patch in RTW ( 1.6 ) messed it up. So i uninstalled it again.
Once i install BI, the 1.6 patch gos right into the BI folder?
    Not data..?
Plus should RTW vanilla read 1.6 after I,m done?
    thanks..

Yopu should install RTW BI to your game folder - that is the old 'Rome - Total War' folder where the exes live. Any patching will also go to the 'game folder'.

I am fairly sure that when you install RTW BI it does not ask for the install location - it just takes the original RTW install path (at least in my experience). So, if you've moved the location of RTW there may be a problem - in the past I've had to move the game back to it's original install location.

The latest version of RTW is 1.5 and the latest version of RTW BI is 1.6. After you've patched RTW BI you should launch both games and look at the top right hand corner on the Options Menu as the number there is the version of your install.

    Hi Burs.
Yes Bi 1.6 patch didn't tell me where to patch it.
So i put it into RTW folder, and when i did that in options of RTW- still 1.5.
I put it into BI also and that's when my Vanilla BI didn't work.
I tried uninstalling the patch and BI. Big mistake!
Now my RTW vanilla doesn't work.
But my RTW 1.5 Beta RS2 copy does!
I have 1.5 RTW Gold and did install BI into the game folder.

So next time when i patch it shouldn't it be in the BI folder?

In the Total war.com posts there was once a post on it.
I hunted all over what to do, and nothing was really clear.

First of all if you patch your RTW install with RTW BI 1.6 then any mods that you run with the RTW exe will remain as 1.5. The patching of RTW BI to 1.6 should never affect the RTW exe.

There are some problems with installing RTW BI onto a RTW 1.5 install using the original RTW BI CD-ROM in that this process would downgrade RTW to 1.3 and have RTW BI as 1.4 (the original version). If this happens it's simply a matter of using the 1.6 patch.

I presume you have your copy of RSII beta in a different game folder than the RTW one?

The way to get your RTW vanilla to work again is to simply uninstall it. This will not delete the RSII beta but will, probably make it inoperatable while RTW is not installed on your machine (as the entries have been removed from the Widows Registry).

Do you play RSII with the RTW or RTW BI exe?

Oh.. so i didn't need Bi patch 1.6, because i had RTW ( Gold) 1.5?
and what came with it was B.I. 1.6 ?

Yes Rs 2 Beta has it's own copy of RTW/ folder under creative Assembly's. But still under Creative Assemblies.

RTW disk, I don't have BI installed now.
I have never installed BI until recently.

Are you telling me i can unistall RTW? And all its components as it states?
Then load it again and the RS2 beta will still work?
With out messing with all the Beta stuff?

    This is the main folder,
    this is the RTW Vanilla

    This is the RTW folder.
    So you say unistall RTW
And my Beta RS2 will still be there?
Then load RTW all three disks, and there will be no change in the my beta of updates from SVN ( Tones & DVKs updates?

If it does change them i will wait when the mod to come out before undoing all this work.

My Beta-RTW RS2 works great, and i figure because it's a copy of RTW.
I might stick with that until later.

    Thanks bud,

You can uninstall RTW without affecting the RSII Beta install as at worst it will remove the 'Rome - Total War' folder (more likely if you have any saves there that folder will be left in place) and not the RS2Beta folder.

However, I think you won't be able to play RSII Beta until you reinstall RTW as there is no entry in the Windows Registry.

I've never attempted to do that. I have uninstalled and reinstalled vanilla RTW and RTW BI while leaving my various mods in place. I've done this when I wanted to replace the discs (official RTW discs with official RTW Gold disc) that I've been using. If you put a different disc in the drive than the installed game it comes up with an error.

There are different versions of RTW Gold around (that I know of). I have a RTW Gold that has both RTW and RTW BI on a single DVD-ROM. When I installed that I ended up with both RTW 1.5 and RTW BI 1.6.

If you've only installed RTW then there is no need to install the 1.6 patch, in fact it should not work as you don't have RTW BI installed. I guess the worst that could happen is that you will end up with a BI folder but not one that has all the components need to play RTW BI......

I am a bit confused to why you refer to 'Then load RTW all three disks'. As far as I am aware the only version of RTW that comes on three disks is the original RTW which is on CD-ROM and is probably 1.0 or maybe 1.1.

If you have no intention of installing another mod or want to play vanilla RTW or vanilla RTW BI it's probably best to not go through this process just yet.

    Thanks Brus.
The game came with 3 RTW disks and one Rome B.I.
This is called the Gold Edition.
    I guess i didn't need that BI 1.6 patch.
Yes i will wait, RS2 beta keeps me busy enough and at times i play MTW's B.I. 2
A very good mod that deals with Rome's western kingdoms final days.

No problems. It does sound like it's the original 3 CD-ROMs for RTW and another one for RTW BI. I've still got my original RTW but my original RTW BI CD-ROM exploaded in the drive bay of my PC about twelve months ago.

There are certainly a lot of different RTW Golds out there......

If you are interested in the final days of the Roman Empire I think the mod that florin80 finished off may be interest to you: 'The Fall of Rome': http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1347

    You read my mind!
That is the reason i loaded bI.
But now i cant until this Mod, RS2 comes out.
I'm not risking installing and installing this whole thing.
Including the SVN, and all that comes with it.
    Yes it looks very cool!
    Thanks for your help.
