Default Rant Against Prime Minister Harper

Being a Canadian, I must say that I [and I speak for a lot people here I think] am most embarrassed by my Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, and his divisive, obstructionist politics.

The latest load of crap to come out of Ottawa is regarding the climate change conference in Copenhagen, when Harper said that he would only go if President Obama was going. After that nice little reminder that we are in total thrall to America, comes the lovely bits of garbage out of the Guardian newpaper in Britain talking about throwing us of the Commonwealth. And don't forget to mention that Harper has totally tarnished Canada's image in the eyes of the world by doing absolutely nothing about climate change, which will deeply affect this country like every other one.

After having received the fossil award several times, we are now viewed as 'in the way' of progress on environmental protection because of our government's intrasigence on environmental stewardship and protection. Because of many issues regarding national unity and the disfunctional state our country is in, and the powerful influence that corporations and executives wield in our government, it is extremely unlikely we will make any progress on issues of national importance.

Suffice to say, Canada ain't in great shape. But there are many millions of people here who wish it were otherwise, and would try to change things. The unstable political climate, however, makes that nearly impossible.

Stop whining. Canada is a great country. Want to see a corrupt hell hole? Move to Somalia or something.

So you want Canada to voluntarily kill its economy with this silly climate control stuff? If Harper is against that, I say he is doing a pretty good job.

I don't believe that environmental stewardship will kill our economy. If the federal government were, say, to subsidize on a large scale industries such as wind power, green product manufacturing, and the updating of existing infrastructure to be more efficient, it would actually greatly benefit the economy while providing many new high quality jobs. I don't believe the provinces that produce large carbon emissions need to be penalized, but instead encouraged to shift voluntarily towards a better policy.

Not to mention the expansion of parks is almost always a good thing.

Well that's your problem, you are living in fantasyland, not real life

Climate Change is one big conspiracy and full of faulty science and liars. The recent leak shows how these "scientists" operate. We need to focus on things that matter, like building up our economy and increasing the amount of doctors we got. The only thing I dislike about Harper is his refusal to allow an independent investigation in torture allegations.

No you mean man made global warming/climate change right?

Climate change is reoccurring and we have no control over it.

Regardless of whether or not climate change is happening, industrial pollution is a major problem that needs to be dealt with. I also agree that the whole 'man-made global warming' thing is just fear mongering, but that should not give us an excuse to let our forests be totally annihilated and our lakes become polluted for sake of ever greater economic growth. The strain on the Earth has never been greater, with 6.5b people and counting, we as a society need to make sure we can preserve what is left of nature for future generations, something that is obviously not on Mr. Harper's agenda.

Climate change is not a lie. The ratio of the number of scientists that disagree vs the number of scientists that agree is the same as any other scientific theory. "Friends of Science" against climate change are backed by the tabacco and automobile industries.

So, are we supposed to debate your dissatisfaction with your prime minister or the general state of affairs in Canada?
