Default RTRVII: Fate of Empires - Multiplayer

    Greetings, RTR fans!

We all know how easy it is to defeat the AI. Even against overwhelming odds, you can easily outflank and break your foe. The only real challenge comes when you play a fellow human. And for that reason, I want to start a multiplayer competition. Anyone is free to join.

    How to join:

    - Install FOE 1.3

    - Install Hamachi (which you can download for free) and join the "RTR Official Multiplayer" network (Password = "IWillBeActive" ())

    - Notify me

    -----------------

The end of the competition will probably be when FOE2 comes out.

    Rules:

    1. We start as soon as 2 players have applied, however, late entries are allowed.

    2. The budget for the battle is 25000 unless agreed otherwise by the contestants.

    3. Units:
    - No Asian elephants, because they are too powerful.
    - Max. of two African elephants unless you are playing as Numidia
    - Max. of two artillery units
    - Half of your army must be factional or recruited from your faction's home AoR (e.g. Italy for Rome, Africa for Carthage, Iberia for Celtiberia)

    4. Scoring system:
    - 10 points for the win
    - 5 points if you lose but managed to kill 50% of your FOE's troops (Pyrrhic victory rule )

    5. Reporting: At least one of the contestants must inform me (on this thread or by PM) who won, as well as whether or not more the defeated killed 50% of the enemy (preferably have a screenshot of the result). Remember, the battle doesn't count if I don't hear of it! Feel free to say more, if you want

    6. Happy Gaming!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. For compatibility issues, I've uploaded my own map.rwm. Can everyone use this? Extract it and put it in FOE/data/world/maps/base and change it's name to map.rwm

First result: Me against Shqip: I was Rome, and he was Carthage. We played on the "Carthaginian Homelands". I tried a triplex formation, whilst he placed a line of Liby-Phoenician hoplites at the front, with Roman deserters at the flanks, and a far greater cavalry force than me. Let's put it short: My "superior" infantry proved inferior, and we all know Roman equites are crap. Not to mention that I'm used to playing against an imbecile more commonly known as the AI. After my flanking manoever with my triarii and principes failed miserably, I was routed... but I vow I will have revenge!

P.S.: I give Shqip 9 points and I think he gave me 8

Edit: If anyone has compatability issues, I can upload my map.rwm

It was fast and nice roman/carthage style.
Actually Caligula went Scipio on me with the flanking with his best troops move plus cavalry. What I did was disengage my sacred band from the front line where was butchering helpless hastati and face this threat. Also I made use of light troops which Caligula apparently didn't like in his army

We invite anyone to join us with Hamachi and have fierce battles with FoE

Nah, skirmishers aren't my style... all the AI does is charge them before they fire many missiles. Ah well. I think I might try out the Gauls next time... something new. Although, I should actually play as Carthage, since I never lost a (fair) battle against the AI in my campaign as them

    rederecting
    4. The budget for the battle is agreed between the contestants.

We set it at a good 25000 denarii, after CC decided 20000 wasn't enough for his big roman army

a far greater cavalry force than me
CC You had 3 units of Equites, I had 2 units of cavalry.I have everything on film

Although, I should actually play as Carthage
You play as Carthage, I might choose Epirus

To when our next encounter? How about we "Zama" it tomorrow

Oh and I gave you a nine after our battle.Cuz I think we're pretty much on the same level.

It seemed like you had more... Is there a free video recording programm you can download? Fraps only allows 10 seconds.

Or I might do the unexpected. Gauls with Punic AoRs, for instance.

Thanks Tony. @roam: It's surprisingly easy: You download it, then sign into an existing network (my one or the RTRFOE one - password RTRFOEP), then without closing it, you run up FOE, select multiplayer, then LAN battles, and provided someone else is online and in the lobby, you can battle them. Normally, you have to arrange that, of course.

By the way, I just managed to defeat Carthage (under Melqart)... with Celtiberia. I used somewhat unconventional tactics, but he adjusted to them and took me by surprise in the rematch

Yes, I fought him quite a few times. I think I won more, so it's a pity Melqart hasn't joined yet

I just battled Shqip using the Numidians (for the hell of it) against his Romans. This time, I took four units of elephants (quote: "brutes on steroids"), three Numidian cavalrymen and two Numidian nobles. I also happened to have some hellenic pikemen and Roman deserters. He chose a solely infantry force with plenty of velites. I almost managed to outmanoe him by swapping sides (I had eles on one side and cavalry on the other - a big mistake). My cavalry and eles cased many casualties, but his numberswere overwhelming. For a time, victory seemed within my grasp, with aroud 20% of my men dead and 60% of him, but then...

In the end, without my eles (who were killed by the velites), his infantry proved overwhelming.

I really do recommend multiplayer battles. They are a lot of fun

Oh, and I give Shqip 10/10 for that performance. Of course, he did know my tactics from a 3-way brawl before that...
