    Default RTR problem with vista

Reinstalled RTW and RTR Platinum 1.9. Game didn't work because a crucial file was missing when I tried to load RTR.

RTR has worked on my OS before, so it's not a problem with the OS(I use Vista), and RTW works on it's own. I am pretty sure it's the version that I had downloaded, called "final beta".

My question is, does anyone know/can anyone help me find the version of RTR that has an install screen where you see the Roman dude when the installation prompt comes up after downloading and running the file? The one that doesn't say "final beta" basically. It's the more official looking one. Sorry for not being specific in my description.

There are two versions of RTR PE - a mod-foldered version and a non mod-foldered version.

There should be links to both on this web page: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=169585

I don't play RTR PE anymore so I can't be sure which one you downloaded.

I tend to keep all my download mods so if I need them again I know where to find them.

Maybe I`m missing something, but there should be no final beta on anything related to the latest versions of RTRPE. Which are available above this thread, in the pinned section.
The missing file I assume was the executable. I.e. you clicked the RTRPE desktop shortcut and it said it could not locate the exe file. Which is easily explainable if you`ve installed the mod in the wrong folder. Usually this happens because newer versions of the game install in a The Creative Assembly folder by default while RTRPE installs by default in a folder called Activision(as was valid for older versions of the game).

Alright, I got it to install and whatnot. It works fine and my computer finally is able to read the discs for the games.

Now I have a different problem. I try to launch a campaign for either RTRPE or TFOR and it says "select item from list", and when I try to launch a battle I CTD.

    Any ideas?

That normally means that your game is not of the correct version. You need RTW v1.5 and BI v1.6(Bi is optional) to be able to play RTRPE. Start the game, go to the Options menu and see what version is noted in the upper right corner. If it`s lower than ver.1.5/ver1.6 you`ll have to patch your game to the required version.

Can't open RTW original to check the version. However I can tell you what the box the game came in looks like if that helps?

It's the box with both RTW and BI, the Gold Edition box. That's the game I used for the platinum patch.

A single DVD with both RTW and BI on the same disc? Or separate discs for the two? Normally, RTW Gold edition should be fully patched, but older versions of it had some problems from what people said(BI being v1.4 and downgrading rtw too when installed). You don`t need to start the vanilla game to check the version. Start RTRPE and do what I`ve said.

Discs are separate. But the version is 1.5, or it was when I did this a year ago. I remember now. I am reinstalling the original games and reinstalling the mods(TFOR and RTRPE, the one that installs separately).

If you launch the game, go to the options screen and look at the number in the top right hand corner. If you are using RTW it should be 1.5 and if you are using RTW BI it should be 1.6.

There is no need to open the files.

The message 'select an item from the list' is usually a clear indication that the game is not patched correctly.

Yea the problem with BI is that it's 1.4 and I can't run TFOR. Just gotta patch it or do I have to reinstall the game then patch, then modify?
