Lag Issues for Empire Total War

The title explains it all; every time I play the game, I experience crippiling amounts of lag that truly ruins the game for me. I'm not a computer expert, so I don't have a clue what the potential problem is. Help please.

First thing to do is, before you evaluate what's to change and what no in your pc, turn down the eye candy graphics of the game in the graphics options. Usually removing the antialiasing, turning off the grass and lowering the resolution should do the work. Antisotropic filter I recomend keeping it at 2x or 4x since makes the unit much better, all the rest TURN IT DOWN.

I can do this by booting up the game and pressing options, correct (And thanks in advance; I just want to play the game to where I can enjoy it)?

well what do you have, CPU and GPU?

I have a relatively new E-machine T5062 Desktop PC.

Not sure what a GPU is, but I'll go ahead and assume that it's a graphics card.. and I don't know which one I have. When I first installed ETW, I had the default Graphics card, so I went and bought a new one (which helped a lot). I don't know what brand I bought though.

Taken from Cnet reviews. That'd explain the problem. CPU and GPU are too weak, not really enough RAM.
It didn't list the cpu speed, though.

yeah your lagging because your computer really really sucks, you need to upgrade, im surprised the game even launches with that rig

GTX 260 or 5770 if your on a budget, (go with the 260)
