Default Opening Textures in Elite Units of America

I wanted to do a few small change's to the Tarleton's Light Dragoons skin (I think CA has done a very good job on this skin it was just small things like head band colour collar cuffs etc) .. But I'm unable to open the diffuse file?

Are they blocked in some way??

    Cheers ...

Yep, it's the same crap all over again it seems.. The files are protected and therefore cannot be changed by modders. Protecting the models I understand, but protecting the textures? What's wrong with editing the textures to add / change whatever you wish? It's not like we're giving the models away with it! You'd still need the DLC to use them!!

This is one of the many reasons why Empire: TW sometimes frustrates me to no end..

I believe I read somewhere when the publicity machine for this game was going full force on us that Empire: TW would be the most mod-friendly Total War in the series.. Yeah, so much for THAT promise..

I really thought it must be me as there is no reason to block a texture 'cuz as you said, you must have the DLC to use them.
Blocking the models bugged me but I could understand it , this just s me off !

See thats the problem - you dont need the model to use them. You can just copy and paste things, like faces, onto other units without much hassle. I, and other modders, are doing it - when they dont protect things this happens

I can open the textures without any problems, I just extracted them with the packfilemanager and opened them in Photoshop (but I guess you'll need a .dds plugin aswell)

Thats odd I got photoshop with DDS plug-in and still can't open them?
Edit: Also tried in 'IrfanView + DXTBmp' and they can't open them though I can open any of the older ones

If you do figure out a way to open them, can you make Lee's Legion look more different? They look too much like Tarleton's guys.

I have found a solution. The problem was not the plugin it was the packfilemanger. It semms that in v1.12 the dds files get corruptet when extracting them. My solution was mixing PFM1.13beta with the common.dll fom the DBEditor 1.7, however this works only on 32 Bit OS (tested only on WinXP32).
