Napoleon (boooooo) Total War

I'm really dissapointed that the next total war game is going to be about Boney. As a Brit I'm not overly keen on the French to say the least.

To play and try to conquer as the Frogs is a horrible thought.

The Early 19th century is really a great point in history so it would be a real shame if they didn't do a Worldwide long campaign game for other nations as well in this time period.......

Well, I'm British too but I see no problem with it. After all, he was a great general and his name defined the era. It may be hard for me to kill British people playing as the French though

Don't worry about the campaigns. Like Road to Independence followed the US, these campaigns will follow Napoleon in his main campaigns. The final one is a Grand Campaign and it is my understanding that you will be able to play as many factions other than France - including Britain.

Don't dismiss it just yet!

I'm British as well, and I too don't see a problem with it. I think you will have the opportunity to play against France and change the course of history.

I think it's a well chosen theme for a Total War game as Napoleonic Warfare has many strategic elements that will be interesting to play.

the Napoleonic epoch is the best epoch on the gunpowder and the one that says that not,is that has not even idea of history.
it has been a great wisdom of CA to do an exclusive game of the napoleonic epoch.

Damn you British Nationalists, Playing as either the French or the coalition powers is gonna be very interesting and entertaining if CA manages to do a good job.

To me it always seemed strange to make a standalone Total war game that is so specifically pointed at one main character of the time. Other Total war games like Alexander were always add-on expansions which makes a lot more sense.

Napoleon seems too niche. I will also admit that in every total War game I played the Brits (well the Julii in RTW, can`t remember what i played in STW, but there was always a good choice). I do not believe that napoleon actually deserves a whole standalone and so soon after Empires - it`s just not logical.

If Napoleon was an EXPANSION to Empires that would make a lot more sense.

What are they going to try next? WELLINGTON Total War? I doubt it somehow.

Great period in history for us military fans, I have no problems taking on the role of Napoleon, If CA include trafalgar maybe sink Nelson . Same with RTW no problems as the julii smashing the world.
I also hope to take on the role of general Lee and lead the army of northern Virginia to a glorious victory, If CA kindly produce an ACW campaign in the style of NTW, what say you Jack?

Honestly, I think it was supposed to be this way, but because of the Catastrophy of ETW and Sega rushing, CA had to make it a standalone game

you can play great brittain in NTW so dont whine

As a Dane I dont have any problems with killing brits, it would be a pleasure infact....
But I think that the game itself would be great and acording to the devs you would be able too play as the coalittion

wow, what a discussion, if you don't want to play as napoleon noone forces you too (unless you have to play the tutorial) this game must have the possibility to play as other nations as well

If not Napoleon I have no idea where this series could possibly be going. I don't get people who invest nationalism in little computer game men fighting....

Thanks for the reply's to the opening post. I should add that this thread was written as a bit of a joke.

The main point of starting it is just to highlight that I really hope it will be playable with many nations on a long strategy game on a Worldwide map.

NB Magpie (#9), there may be no need to play as the USA on the game, if the AI fixes it so they pay their taxes they can still be part of the Empire!

I enjoyed playing the Kingdom of France in Medieval II (first European faction I won the game with) so I think it'd be nice to return to France a few centuries later with Napoleon. Don't the other factions become available after you've completed the game as France anyway?

As for a big map, I think the Mastery of Europe will be the equivalent of Empire's Grand Campaign. Whether it will feature America I don't know (maybe it should considering the War of 1812) but I think the US has been given enough attention with The Road to Independence, Warpath, and the Elite Units of America.

Vive la France! Vive l'Empereur! Britain should go and pay with her ships in the bath...

Oh I hate this nationalism, but I don't like NTW is made <51% after the French view either.

I'm a belgian, my country didn't even exist at that time (Independance : 1830!)

So I do not have a bias towards any factions

He may not have been the nicest man around (heck, I hate both his political views and his personal life) but the fact remains that he was a brilliant and influential military thinker, strategist and tactician; he revolutionized warfare, and deserves all the credit he can get.

You could just lead them to catastrophic and epic failure, you know. Just for the giggles. Or alternatively, use your superior British riflemen to demolish them in custom battles.
