    Icon4 Aye Carumba! Big Problem!

    Hi,

I've had a massive problem with my EXRM install this weekend, so I was hoping someone around here would be able to help me please?

    I'm running EXRM 3.5.2 using BI 1.6.

Basically, someone's deleted the desktop shortcut for EXRM (for some reason we only have 1 user profile on the PC), and thus, when I tried to open it yesterday it opened up plain RTW BI.

I can't see a separate file which would open EXRM in the directory (something like C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome Total War\EXRM). Am I just being blind? I used the BI .exe file to try and use it yesterday and ended up with BI opening.

Is this something to do with EXRM being modfoldered so that the shortcut picks and chooses which files are used when opening it?

    Help!

Make a new shortcut and title it whatever you want.

Right click it and select "properties".

In the "shortcut" tab, there should be a field called "Target". Copy and paste this line into that field, overwriting whatever is there:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:ExRM

    Much appreciated mate!

I'll give this a go when I'm at home.

Sorry to come back after so long, but I've now got another problem.

It's been an age since I've had a chance to play, and after following the above instructions to generate a working shortcut I'm getting an error message about data/descr_strategy_lighting.txt being unreadable.

I've posted a link to a screenshot below.

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

This one shows up a lot. It's an installation problem. Are you using Steam, perchance?

Nope, I installed RTW and the BI from CD, and then patched it to the 1.6 version.

I've noticed I've got an EXRM folder inside the normal EXRM folder in my install. So I may have misapplied the patch or done something really dumb like that?

    Yes.
That might just be the case though you would have to delete it and so on to know for sure.

Okay, so this isn't my most sober of posts (been catching up with a few old friends and drank somewhere in the region of 16-20 bottles of beer and watched Judge Dredd amongst other things...)

I've tried experimenting with the patch and tried applying it etc, but to no avail. Do I have to delete EXRM and download and install everything again? It's a pain in the arse for me, and if possible I'd like to avoid this.

That's a lot of beer. Wow.

Why would you need to re-download it? Did you delete the installer?

First, try deleting that second ExRM folder. Second, re-apply the patch. Third, check to make sure the second ExRM hasn't re-appeared. If it has, you're doing it wrong. If it hasn't and it still doesn't work...

Drag and drop your ExRM folder onto the desktop or somewhere. Save the shortcut, too. Then delete and reinstall RTW-BI. Make sure it's patched. Then drag your ExRM folder back into the folder (along with the shortcut). Maybe that'll work.

It's not quite as much as it sounds, they were the stubby bottles and spread over about 4 hours. Still, the hangover was of epic proportions...

I think I have deleted the installer, or somehow lost it. But I'll have a good search around and see if I can find it. Maybe save it to a memory stick or something so I know I've got it safe.

Cheers for being patient with me!

Deservedly so, as the drinking also appears to have been epic.

It's cool. I hope you get it working!
