Ive noticed in Empire, the ranks are very, very straight, almost perfect. Its espescially noticeable in cavalry. Theyre still ruler-straight when the horses gallop. It looks so un real. Please can they fix this? In Rome and Medieval the ranks were always a bit wobbly, it looked soooo more realistic.

I really hope they fix this, it will make things look soo much better and realistic.

And another thing: when chasing down routers, the cavalry are incerdibly stupid. It took a unit of 54 dragoons 3 and a half minutes to kill 38 fleeing infantry. The cavalry just scatter and take ages to kill everyone. Its ridiculous. The same hapens in MTW2. In Rome, chasing routers was easy. You got the job done quickly and simply, and the cavalry didnt scatter, get lost, get stuck or die.

And did anyone notice how in Empire, the routers fomed tight columns and ran in their really tight marching columns? If a unit that was in square formation routed, the fleeing men ran in square formation. In MTW2 and Rome, the routers spread out, lost any formation, and just ran.

I really really really REALLY hope the fix theese things in Napoleon Total War. Little things i know, but little things make all the difference. If they are done well, they can turn a good game into a great game.

Actually, battles at this time were like that. Very well organised and orchestrated.

    @ Emperor Batman

Are you honestly saying that a 45 horsemen unit can gallop at full pace and still keep their formation perfect? I doubt it.

Your cavalry stay in perfect formation when charging? I noticed that when they halt they do the usual TW thing and shuffle back into place, but my cavalry are very rarely in perfect formations when charging, or even when trotting. Infantry are a different matter though, as they tend to be most often in great formations unless they're moving awkwardly or being fired at (what can I say, repeated deaths by gunfire negatively impacts the organisational abilities of a unit). Personally I don't take issue with this, but it would be less of a problem if the soldiers in a unit differed slightly in: height, hair colour, facial hair, visible wounds (e.g. bandaging), that way individual units feel a little less Attack of the Clones.

if they gallop at full pace it means they all have the same speed so yes .

Yes, infantry can be so, only minimal out of rank, but not cavalry, they never charged or moved at full pace and stayed in perfectly straight lines. The where deployed in relativly straight lines but not perfect, and when the moved at full pace, they went all over.

But I don't see the problem here in my playthroughs of empire soon as I ordered a Cavalry charg one guy would be way ahea of the pack 3 following him, 5 guys or so trying to overtake the first guy from the left and right. I never actually saw cavalry charge in a straight line.

But during marching yes they tend to stay perfectly in line which was actually a command and rule of the army, when marching stay in line on pain of death.

So for me things work out kinda good even infantry when charging does that all scattered and unruly like it should be.

The only complaint I have is the collision detection with the bayonets because when i charge all the guys just sorta compress together before bouncing back to mroe natural and realistic position so they dont have bayonets sticking in each others asses.

I think Irregular units should have irregular lines, Normal units tidy lines and Elite (doesn't matter if heavy or light) units perfect lines. Unit movemen tsould be a matter of discipline for both Infantry and Cavalry.

I think that this should vary depending on the nation, for example some nations would concentrate training discipline more than combat training (Austrian example)
And this would also change with how much training the unit has received, militia would have basically no training (Messy lines). Line infantry would have good training (Good lines)

And Elite/Experienced infantry would have nearly exceptional lines and discipline.
