NTW Defensive Deployment Idea

You know how in ETW in the campaign, you can deploy defensive stuctures such as the cane walls for cannons, but nothing for single player or multiplayer battles. I want defensive equipment for NTW being able to be used such as zig zag trenches for attacking in sieges, cane basket barracks for cannons also in sieges, redoubts in battle or sand bags for fighting in city streets. Of course they should be limited and cost more. I wonder though, is it too late, or can it be added in a patch!

Well...once mod tools are released if its not in perhaps some wily modder will find a way to do it.

I surely support trenches, stakes, etc. for beign able to deploy by both sides in battles in NTW

be aware that that would support camping (free extra defence)

Yep, you're right. There should be some rules in MP battles, together with a "Cheat" button. I know this can be used abussively, but it is something...

No you should always have a defender/attacker. That's what those custom matches are lacking.

As for the defensives for the attackers, that should only really work if the defense structures can be built during the battle.

You should have the ability to turn defensive structures "on" or "off" in custom battles, with the push of a button. How difficult can that be to code in?

It'd be awesome to have defensive emplacements for siege warfare, both on the attacking and defending sides, but they really need to fix how those emplacements look.

Like the "trenches"? Those aren't trenches, they're...something else. I want actual depressions in the ground!

That's what I meant.

The defensive structures are pretty useless for the attacker since they have to go on the offensive so they can't stay in one position. These are set prior to the battle.

If they can dig trenches while moving their way up during the battle then that's a different story. Then you have light infantry who can place stakes in the ground while moving.

Any feature that gives the edge over your opponent should be placed in the middle of the map just like the hill on Syrian Ridge. Grenadiers and of course artillery should be able to clear occupied building, Dragoons should get garrison bonus inside them.

Trenches have been used for as long as gunpowder weapons with trenches even being used at the battle of Cerignola in 1503 which was also one of the first ever battles with widespread firearms usage. they where then used largely in seige warfare to allow attackers to approach defensive works under cover. a fine example of this is the Seiges of Badajos and Ciudad Rodrigo in the peninsular Campaign.

From what I know, trenches are used from ancient Persian and Roman times. Even if they became notorious in WW1, they were still used massively at Torres Vedras, in the Napoleeonic Wars.

Defenses in custom battles is a must, as a check able option.. surely it couldn't be too hard to implement..
