    Default Video won't play

As the title says, video won't play on my laptop at all. While I was out on vacation, I came back to discover I had quite a few instances of Vundo on my system which have all been since removed and virus scans including MBAM come up negative. Some videos did play in VLC when I opened a folder in it, but about 4-5 videos in, it stopped working too. The audio works perfectly, but there is no visual whatsoever. Internet browsers are unaffected since youtube and all the video sites are fine. I've download the K-lite codec pack, installed, and it's done nothing. KMPlayer, VLC, Winamp, and WMP have all been used, none are working. WMP has been updated to WMP 11 with no changes. The OS is XP with service pack 2 if that makes any difference.

AVG and MBAM are showing no malware and all the codecs I can think of were downloaded and installed.

I can't remember what codecs K-Lite includes but if it doesn't have XVID/DVIX then you should be downloading and reinstall them.

I downloaded both, the videos still come up blank. The sound works fine on almost all the players, the video shows up on none. VLC did play videos when I ran it for the first time, but then it fails to do so every other time I run it.

    Have you tried system restore?

I had a similar problem a few months ago.. It was one of the stranger ones ive seen., definitely not a codec issue in the conventional sense. Though I cant think what else all the media players have in common if not codecs. What was odd was that the enhancements window (equaliser and such) in windows media player always came up blank too, as if it was also a video file failing to render properly.

In the end I couldn't be bothered with it and reformatted that windows partition (i always keep a dual boot of vista and win 7).

I assumed it was a virus or similar such malware, so if youre getting the same problem with the media player enhancements window then i dont know what to tell you.

    I've got it installed.

Well, after all the programs installed, the update is it's been fixed. It was something as obscure as turning off video acceleration

Yeah, I had the same issue with sound acting weird in games because of the same setting with the sound.... as has been said above, it's really not one of the things you'd first go to. I got it to work, but now I can't use WMP in full screen because it crashes every time I activate fulls screen but I can live with that.
