Stand, Crouch, Prone and Hiding ideas

I think that all troops should be able to stand, crouch, or lie down at any time with the push of a button. When they stand, they can move faster, but their accuracy is bad. When troops crouch, it's in between standing and lying down. When troops lie down, they can hide behind a hill, like in Waterloo, and their accuracy is awesome but they will be horrible at moving.

Also, skirmishers should interact with the environment, like when they hide in a forest, they should stand against trees and sit behind bushes, waiting for the enemy to come.

in regards to crouching whilst shooting, i dont think thats how thing were done in those days

and i reckon the skirmishers hiding behind trees will be VERY hard to implement

That's easy, there are no destructible environments. Look at games like Call of Duty, the AI hides behind cover there too. Same as in Company of Heroes, why shouldn't it work in a TW game? Ok... maybe because of the pathfinding.

Having a few dozen men hiding behind cover is A LOT easier than having multiple units of 120+ men hiding behind cover while thousands of troops, cannons and cavalry fight in the background in real time.

I see no reason why not? It's fairly simple. You just gotta need the pathfinding right.

    Light infantry tactics lets you.

And reloading while prone would be very difficult and unwieldy. Russians troops ar waterloo did however as thye were sheltering from artillery fire before rising up and blasting the hell out of the Old Guard with point blank musket vollies.

There were no Russian troops at Waterloo........

Firing while lying prone was not possible in this time. Except with a weapon like the Baker rifle (and even then it was bloody difficult).
The British did indeed lie prone to avoid artillery fire but other nations (Austria for example) considered it cowardly.

exactly, that's why backloaders were so much better compared to ordinary frontloading rifles

It will be hard to implement that, but if it's hard, why shouldn't CA do it? They could try.

Well scratch that part about ALL troops crouching, only skirmishers should do that. But Soldiers did lie down in Waterloo.

lol, of course they always made hard things to please the fans.

But your ideas are good, hope they'll be implemented, especially for light infantry

All soldiers should be able to lie down, it was used to avoid high casualties against skirmishers who had better range and accuracy, especially when there was tall grass.

No noble Russian officer would order his troops to lie down, you might as well tell them to run away it is too dangerous here in this position. Troops needed to be maintained in an orderly fashion having troops lie down or take cover will give them a better opportunity to run away, unless those said troops were highly disciplined and specialized such as many of the British troops as you reference to Waterloo and British formation. The British KGL were much better than those allied Dutch-Belgians whom some ran away before the battle. I think It would need to be a special formation for certain unit types, ie...light infantry, royal guards, ex...

Russian line infantry spent more time polishing and marching in formation than training with weapons...

Shoot coward! You are only going to kill a man!

I just hope light infantry will fire and advance (course they'd have to fix fire and advance first lol)

I suspect that I'll be using alot of light infantry so I have high hopes for them

Improbable as it is, I hoping that skirmishers/light infantry will have a proper two man crouch, aim, fire move. tactic. One man fires while the other reloads, who them moves up and fires etc.

Also hoping for improvements on the garrisoning of buildings, men taking turns fire through windows, at the moment 3/4 of the squad sits on thier hands downstairs or in the middle of the structure, such a waste of firepower!!

I would be happy with just the ability for skirmishers to go prone.

Agreed. It's a solid idea and something they edged towards with the Light Infantry Behaviour mode, but didn't really explore as fully as they should have.
