How to exchange traits between generals

Do you mean the Ancillaries? (Like Veteran Warrior, Privy Seal, etc..)

If so, just merge your two generals into one army if their out on the field, or if the general you want to trade with is in a settlement then just get the other general to that settlement.

Then, once there, open the general that has the Ancillary by right clicking on the portrait, then drag that ancillary into the portrait of the other general you want to give it to, and he'll get it.

Keep in mind some Generals have ancillaries that cannot be tradeable (like the Knight Banners if they don't have the proper rank etc..)

Also, if the other general has 8 ancillaries already, then he will not be able to receive anymore till you trade some of them off to other generals.
