Basically, what I would like to see is a naval battle off the coast, like in RTW/MTW2 (the red square zone).

EDIT - due to *Oggies* comment, I forgot to add the coastal land battles too!

It would also be good if you could have battles along deltas (River Nile for example).

Improved tech for naval cannons are a must. New types of cannon (including new model in battle map) would be excellent.

Improved animations with the ships crew, and (like in rome/medieval 2) a death scene for the admiral/leader of the fleet (NOTE - also for land armies!!).

I have thought about ships surrendering.... I dont like the fact that the enemy crew just sit there - I would like to see something more immersive, like the crew being lined up or policed, whilst a small amount of the victorious ships crew remain onboard (thus removing some of the victorious ships effectiveness) in order to keep control of the ship.

Possibly add the chance to *retake* the ship ingame? (eg. click the board icon on surrendered ship to attempt a recapture).

Overall, I know that some of these ideas (particularly the last ones) are overly ambitious, however the first one is defenitely something I would like to see.

I have had my confidence shaken by ETW, and for NTW I sincerely hope that CA make drastic improvements to the game.

Comments and suggestions/constructive criticisms are welcome - fire away lads =)

Shore bombardment of fortifictions and enemy armies would be welcome as well and would provide for a more realistic experience.

Yeah that would really be awesome to use your shop cannon to help your troops on land.

About more animations that would be very nice, more for the eye to see ey?

And also about what you said if you're near the sea I would like to see the sea in my land battles. Not that I'm transported miles inland to fight a battle. So a realistic battlefield would be nice

CA has to make more violent, more immersive naval battles. Animation of the rew is boring and we can't zoom as near as in land battles. Naval battles were very violent: man mutilated, explosions, fire, men scrashed, hard smoke, corpses floating etc.

What we would like to see is debris in the water ,matts floating, small boats evacuating the crew, man burning jumping in the water, the option cannon ball heated to red to burn ennemies' boats, we want to see the violence, the devastation of a hundred cannons firing at the same time on an other boat. For the moment all of this and above lacks: that make naval battles boring even with mods.

@ panzershreck - if i believe CA could do it with the current engine theyre using for NTW, i would request that too.

but i dont think they could even if they wanted to - simply too much will effectively *kill* the casual gamers processor =P

they want their percentage dont they?

One thing I noticed that CA never managed to get with Battleship fights: The red glowing of burning ships mixed intothe smoke of battle like in the paintings. I`m sure with fioggy conditions or lots of smoke, more ships on fire for longer, the hellish look could have been attained.

But it`s pointless to mention anyway.

Aboukir Bay just wouldn't be the same without the shallows and the shore based artillery. It would be as silly as Vauban style fortress without a glacis and a forest right next to the walls.

could care less about naval battles really. although it would be nice to have ships the ability to go up rivers depending on the type of ship.
"we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA
Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...
