maybe a little misunderstanding.
Then let's finish in 750 or 751AD. I think it's a very good end-date as suggested by Gäiten and Constantius
thanx a lot to everybody who participated the brainstorming.

Well I would say theres is going to be the Roman Empire ,Sassanid Persia ,Langobardi ,Avars Khaganate ,Slavic tribes ,Franks ,Visigothic Spain ,Saxons and the rising Islamic Caliphate .I speak unofficailly here the man is PM ,those are just some of my thoughts
A good deal of the modded cities just would not belong, if the mod carried on longer than 751AD as by then famine, invasion and climatic disaster meant much of the classical heritage was being thrown into limekilns, or taken apart for new structures, spolia I think it was called. Good decision.
Heraclius in Africa, giving the faction the goal of overthrowing Phocas, is a good one if that's still possible. He could have opted, if Phocas was stronger, to carve out a local Roman Empire in Africa. Perhaps that might have stood up to Arab invaders far longer. Carthage and other African cities had declined badly by that time, but the revival was not impossible. Localised empires was a characteristic throughout Roman history. If the decision is made already, don't worry.
we discussed that option. Indeed an interesting scenario. Phokas had at the beginning of the civil war more troops. After Herakleios landed in greece more n' more troops changed their side. So, from the tactical side the result of that civil war was indeed "open" in the first 6 months.
But in this case - if we begin in 610AD - we have to expect trouble in the AoD-forum because we have to add characters like Mohammad and his closer retinue. I think you see the brisance of that chapter.
Anyway, that's the reason why we decided to start in 636AD - the day before Yarmuk - and this is fixed.
I see. That's wise, prudent. I want to re-read a bit before I say too much on the faction list, but it looks good now.
That's a good answer.
Have you thought about adding a Nubian faction like e.g. Makuria?
I know that the various states in Sudan and Ethiopia were Christians and had diplomatic, religious and economic relations with Byzanz and survived the Muslim expansion. Atleast until the late middle ages.
Unfortunately I´m neither a historian nor do I know much else about them, but they would have an interesting position on the campaign map and would fill an empty part.
If it isn't included Ghassanid confederation could be included. It did survive until shortly after Yarmuk, and while the diplomatic engine isn't up to the complicated role they and the Lakhmids played, a small state that both Moslem and Romans might destroy, could be enjoyable. Its Christianity has to have some importance. The families that comprised the confederation did survive identifiably after Yarmuk and Islam. The team has probably already included them.
