    Default Alexander..thoughts & completion times.

Alexander often seems the 'overlooked' expansion to RTW as it's basically just a turn limited campaign.

I kinda like Alexander and wish there was more to it. Any other players enjoy the pressure of getting the job done in time? How quickly did they complete the campaign and what would they have liked to see?

Never bothered to do more than occupy the barbarian cities and one or two Persian cities. Fun this expansion is not.

I found the campaign 'fun' in a way...gotta keep fighting and moving, relying on the mercenary pool to maintain momentum.

I've always disliked those garbage eastern mercenary spearguys, found myself forced to use the routing plonkers too often...aagh!!

I haven't played it yet, but have it as part of my RTW Anthology. It looks good...

It's not. Campaign is restricted to using Macedonia and fighting mostly Persians, and Custom Battles are limited to like 3 factions.

I would've liked to see a bit more 'naval action' maybe on a bigger map. Once the Persian fleet is wiped out, there aint much else happening on the high seas except shuffling troops forward. Siege engines are a 'mixed bag'...dragging onagers and stuff around might slow stack movement too much, but it kinda gets boring using rams and 'construct-on-site' siegey stuff all the time.

Alexander is the most boring expansion i've ever played. Restrict you to playing macedonia and once you wiped out the barbaric factions in the beginning you do mostly the same against the persians. Never look back to your conquered cities and the factions other than persia and macedonia are made like they don't play a role in the game (which they don't but why not use the old banners?) and indeed the fleet-gameplay isn't that much. In my opinion they could connect the Mediteranian with the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf maybe that could be more exciting, but i never liked restricted campaigns, i wanna play with freedom, not organised by the creator and you are not allowed to depart from the way they want you to play or else you lose. Nah, Alexander is a shame, the only thing positive why i have it now is that i can play more mods here on the forum. But the original alexander game is crap.

Aye, its a shame that it limits players to only one campaign faction. Would've been good if completing the campaign unlocks the others to give it more replay value.

Expansion-wise, there isnt much to it, compared to say a single Kingdoms expansion...different factions playable from the get-go, and unlocking factions available.

Good ole Viking Invasion gave players several factions available. I think they 'missed a trick' by not allowing unlocks of the Persians, Indians etc.

But if you could play as Persia, the game would hardly be a challenge because, in the beginning, Persia owns most of the map. I agree with you that it is very limited as you can only play the Macedons, but that it properly the only way to create a challenge, as the AI is not that smart.

I think you can edit the descr_strat.txt file just as in vanilla RTW so you can play with all factions but I dunno if that works i've never tried it anyone who did?
