Default HRE King stuck in recently conquered Italian Lands..

    Hey All,

Wondering if there's a way around this without attacking the faction and going to war.

There was a crusade against Milan (gotta love those catholic crusades) and as England I took advantage of it and ended up with Genoua (SP?) and Milan, however, it seems the HRE Army (Which is lead by their King) that joined the crusade does not want to leave my Milan region.

He's been there for a good 5-6 turns now, so basically is there any way I can get him out of the lands without going to war with HRE? (Which I totally can't afford at the moment, anyway, hard enough trek as it is getting my governors to Italy, lol)

    thanks,

The only other way except the war would be to bribe their army, but you cannot bribe a king.....
So you can only wait; sometimes from my experience, some armies stay a while in my region but finally decide to move.

haha, let's hope, it's been about 10 turns I think and counting now.

But things are looking a little better in Italy, as I finally got my governors over there after a 5-6 year journey it looked like.. (That sort of annoys me a bit, cause journey from England to Italy during that time did not take 5-6 years, lol)

anyway thanks a bunch for the response.

I think it's because Milan has a special place in HRE's heart. I would assassinate their King, and bribe their army, maybe give them military access.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Sometimes armies get stuck, for unknown reasons, and like Ombudsmannen says Milan has a special place for the Emperor

There's always the console, I think you can kill off the king there but not sure how to remove the army.

What I'd do without cheating is gift the regions away to someone you like or want to be friends with, like the Pope or even the HRE? HRE is a good ally for England to beat the French. Like you say its a pain to manage faraway regions and not very realistic either...

The Danes, I swear, with their half arsed attempts at a 'war'. You gotta give it to 'em, they just dont stop trying. Listen, I've fought the Timurids, ever heard of them? Elephants with cannons on their backs. Yea, Timurids. You guys are like kids on tricycles compared to them. -REZ

Ya I was thinking of gifting away the region one to HRE and one to the Pope as I have perfect relations with Rome and all, and Flaunders just declared war on me, which makes their cities very viable and easily more attainable now, of course I naturally gotta get past their hugh stacks.

    thanks,

    thanks,
But what is the sense in joining the crusade when you give the conquered regions away afterwards?

lol that's another good point too, problem is just logistically difficult for me to defend it. since it takes forever to travel by boat from England (I still don't understand why it takes so long there, but ohh well)

And the fact the Italy has mostly towns and not castles, makes it more difficult to bring troops over there, along with France and HRE near those borders I'm not gonna have a good selection of troops to defend if they attack.

BTW, I'm approaching 1242 AD, what year does the Dark Age Script take place? I heard it's always set date, so might as well brace for myself for it, cause I have a feeling it's coming up.

    thanks,

Save up your money and bolster your garrisons, it will hit you soon... try not to preemptively attack aggressors that you eventually want to return to peace with. I suspect defending damages your relations less than attacking his armies. Oh and save the game(of course).

ohh I save every turn, so saving is a not a problem for me. Thanks for the tips on this, I think I'll go with the Dark Ages without the Total War aspects of the script for now though for sanity sakes. lol

If you are speaking of my mini-patch then you have to start a new game for it to take effect; unfortunately ...

yep I figured as much which is why I'm gonna start a new game as the HRE and w/ BB and the mini-patch installed. (Minus the trade route reduction)

plus it bothered me that I wasn't playing on massive size, even though I know my computer can support it (12 gigs, I7-965, 295 GTX), however, I do appreciate all the advice as I learned a lot to hopefully not have to reload all the time when I screw up in this next game!

    thanks,
