    Default RTW regaining popularity?

    http://www.xfire.com/games/rtw/Rome_Total_War/

According to this statistical jibba jabba, RTW is getting more popular. Last time i checked this it was like #108 and now its actually at #105. I think this is because newfags on youtube run into RTW vids from a multitude of the community's commentators, and then get the game. although i think we will never truelly reach our old glory of 2004 i think we might climb up to the top 100 again. Could RTW be experiencing a revival?

i hope more people will actually start using xfire. then the average players a day would be over 9000.
Max: What does the scanner say about its player level?
    Xfire: ITS OVER 9000!
    Max: woot.

The thing is it is expected to go the other way towards 109 (etc.), not to 105. I am glad more people are enjoying a game that I have enjoyed for the past 3 years and in fact still enjoy when I can. As someone already said the more the merrier.

    indeed, DBZ.
no i actually suspect that this unexplained increase of players is actually due to youtube. if thats so, that pretty much overrules all the flaws that those commentary makers have, wether it is hybris or a high pitched voice.

btw - i prefer those with the better voices since english is not my first language and i get a hard time
understanding the second ones you mentioned. hehe

As i'm also watching those vids on youtube a lot of and sometimes it happens that i start reading some comments - ya know sometimes you see
a comment and wonder what could be the reactions on that one - i can confirm having read lots of times about ppl saying exactly what you suspect
    Count_Max.

To be honest i have RTW now almost since release but i never played it too much because this was my Operation Flashpoint era and some BF2 too.
When i bought ETW i've been watching some vids on youtube (the download from steam made me a bit bored) to see what i have to expect and
a few clicks more i landed at some RTW commentary vids. Since i have never before investigated the battles too much (always autoresolved
because i thought i don't like them), everything started to make some sense and looked pretty cool to me.

Yeah i know - shame on me that i missed to play such a great game in proper way but at least i found my way.

So count me in to the list of your suspects and like i already said - i've seen lots of ppl in the comments posting that they are getting RTW soon/now/yesterday
and off course that they would like to play a game against the commentator (but his list is so big already and he's not playing with his real name anyways).

Well we can't forget the guys who play campaign exclusively! Like myself

For just online players that's something great to hear. I'm still a campaign lover myself, though I do play the occasional hotseat campaign with friends, that's about as far as my multiplayer experience has taken me in recent times.

RTW continuing to be popular years after its release.

Just goes to show how much the development of mods can maintain interest and significantly extend the life of a game. Empire will be forgotten as soon as Napoleon TW is released next February.

Yip! The more RTW players the merrier! A good game will always attract new players, and RTW still holds up well after 4/5 years. The strength of the game remains the campaign mode, and few players bother with mp nonsense, and probably even less so if they've seen the laughable garbage videos around the net.

Why don't you go on line and actually experience it before calling MP nonsense? I'd rather play a human than the dumb A.I.

i really do wish noobs who play against the easy AI would stop bashing mp. Come on i know for a fact that i could beat you most of the time if you ever came online so stop insulting it. BUT if you wanna play against something that makes it easy for thrace to conquer the world on VH/Vh go right ahead and glorify it
If you've transcended your facticity, congratulations. You're 3 transcendences from HoS.

Haha, no. Rome maintains a strong MP community, and while I don't play MP myself (CD key died in a cleaning incident ), I know better than to think my strategies against the AI are superior to the ones MP players use. On MP, you're playing against other humans, with real minds, that vary from really stupid to extremely intelligent. On campaign, you fight an AI that is extremely stupid, and you can win just about every battle with the most basic of tactics.

tl;dr respect the MP players. Most can probably beat you in minutes in a battle.
In this day and age, there are two kinds of people: people with sticks, and people with bigger sticks.

your CD key died? why didnt u ask sega for a new one. Also RTW is 3 bucks or so now, you could get a new one any time you wanted. also besides extremely stupid and extremely intelligent theres also extremely experienced and extremely well trained.

In fact intelligence and knowledge about the period dont even guarantee a win. i've seen history professors pick gaul.
