Different to the 'best' faction thread, the most fun faction to play is often not the best. The funnest one's got to be a combination of power, originality, style of play, location in the campaign map etc.
What would you say the most fun faction is?

that really depends on your personal style and preferences. do like to be overpowerd or underpowerd. would you like to hold out against endless hordes of orcs or do you want to flood Arda with them, do you want an army of hobbit, dwarves elfs men or orcs.
If Frodo would voice his thoughts
If Feanor knew Heavy Metal

Dale and Eriador. I like the Underdog...
I'm gonna go with HE, but only as long as you set yourself house rules and stick to them. Mine have been: 1) MOST IMPORTANT: limit of 14 units in a stack - makes you feel a bit more 'realistic' (we really need a better term for this cause everytime I see realistic I can't help but laugh at the absurdity). Anyway it's about being ridiculously outnumbered. 2) limit of 2 Elven cavalry per army (they are just carnage machines if you let them go for it). 3) Don't set out to conquer the world, use spies and small scattered armies to protect the free peoples of Middle-Earth (if you need a base closer to the action, take or buy a castle somewhere eg Cair Andros, Dol Guldur, Nan Curunir). 4) Give monetry gifts to struggling factions, for that you need diplomats everywhere, I had regular shipments of gold in the tens of thousands heading to Gondor until I went down there with an army. 5) Return settlements (where possible) to their rightful owner (provided they don't work for Sauron). 6) General Rule: It's about playing a behind the scenes role, only coming out on stage when someone really stuffs up.
Give it a try, it's fun![]()
i like HE because its soooo fun (for me) to watch thousands of orcs crash against your line of elite elves, that have been training and living for hundreds of years unlike the silly mortals
and then having 6 or so units of archers raining fire arrows on the orcs that are either fleeing, or haven't even had a chance to attack due to the massive amounts of orcs already at my line. then briefly stop the shooting and then having cavalry charge from behind and cause even more orcs the run, and then cut them down as they flee. taking hundreds of prisoners in one battle, which i promptly execute knowing i've helped save the free people of middle earth from being eaten by orcs hehe but thats just me
ahhh they psychopathic slaughterer approach... i approve
I personally prefer the less psychopatic slaughter...
Ransom...
haha you know it has never occured to me once since i've been playing tatw to ask for a ransom! with the change so that good can slaughter evil and vis-versa without affective trustworthiness i've just annihilated every enemy army. Maybe I should try... make a bit of extra cash
i like the psychopathic slaughter approach, and i think how i do it is somewhat realistic, if i have to fight good factions, i always either release, or random if there is a large amount of prisoners. but if i fight ootmm mordor isengard and sometimes with harad and rhun,i execute...
Yeah I always feel bad letting orcs go free, even if it is fun to kill them again! I just wish there was a way to only ransom SOME units, basically just kill the good ones and sell back the rest.

Being able to pick and choose which units you can ransom/which units you want buy back would be a nice trait. That way even if you don't have enough money for everyone you can atleast save a few. Being able to hold on to captives for a few turns rather than having to execute right away would be nice too. Or for an evil faction being able to sell captives as slaves would be a cool addon.
As for funnest faction, I have to say both the elves. I just love raining arrows down on enemy armies and killing so many of them that they run with out a fight is always good fun.
On the holding on to prisoners point, I always thought you should have the option to negotiate. Say you're High Elves, busily fighting OotMM when Isengard attacks you. You kick their arse and take 500 prisoners (cause you had way too many units of Elven Cavalry in the battle), you could say 'alright i'll release the prisoners in exchange for a ceasefire or something. Or you could use it to force someone into vassalage, say you capture most of their main, elite army, and their King, it'd be cool if there was an option to 'make offer: release all prisoners - make demand: become vassal'
Does anyone know if this is possible to mod, cause I know nothing about modding.
Dale and the Silvian elves probably. But hopefully Eriador when it gets reworked.
Gondor and Rohan are much fun, but at the moment my favourite is Isengard.
I like starting small, so your conquest seems more important and I like that feeling of leading a well-organized well-planned strikes. Also it's very challenging vs. all these stacks of horselovers. And i like the sheer defiance of a single man (Saruman, Ok I know, strictly spoken he is not a man) to challenge the old powers purely with the power of his intellect, this Faustian battle against the whole world order...
Because Orcs are Orcs, and torturing them is not only meaningless but the sound of them screaming would be really annoying to listen to. Oh, and having to endure their stench just to inflict pain upon them? Seriously though, they probably don't think there's any point in torturing Orcs, and in lore I doubt they actually took Orcs as prisoners - having to keep them alive and taking them with you slows you down and doesn't really gel with their style. Other mortal races, such as humans or Dwarfs, would probably be taken prisoner, but I doubt they'd be tortured.
