I've started this topic to help CA in doing historically accurate units for N:TW. I've put some characteristical units for different counties below. Please, keep the details (f.e. don't give Hussars long Cuirassiers' shoes like you did in E:TW).Also pay attention to moustaches, haircuts, etc. Each regiment had it's own rules that made it different from the others. Differences should not be in colour of waistcoats, symbols on sleeves and hats but in how dirty and worn-out the uniforms are.
Very important issue is that the uniforms fit it's period. On screens and trailers showing Italian and Egyptian campaign, we can see uniforms from the late period of Napleonic wars. Uniforms from the end of the 18th century to 1807 greatly differed from those from years 1807-1815. Some reforms had place in European armies - soldiers started to wear new style uniforms. For the period of late 18th century-1807 very characteristical were bicorne (some tricorne: Prussia) and gaiters. The jackets were usually long. In the later stage the hats were displaced with shako. Bicorne after 1807 were only worn in guard units, elite cavalary and officers.

There's already a thread like this, maybe we could merge the two. My Historical Uniforms thread in the Historical Forum.

Excuse me, King Louise Assurbanipal you put one more topic with historicaly uniforms here. Don't you mind that it does not help CA, because it is too late. NTW will start at february 2010.

You suggest that developers should include units uniforms from early period of Napoleonic Wars and it will be fine, but it needs double units uniforms. So more you put here few specific units like Bashkirs, Tatars, Albanians and even white Fench line infantry uniforms, green Italian infantry, olddated prussian hussars headwears, Westphalian infantry in bicorn hats etc. By the way, this last unit used hats shortly at that period and I do not know if they ever used it in the battle. Is it not too much wishes?

I think that CA can not do all these uniforms. However as I remember Lusted said that they prepare bicorn hats for French infantry in Italian and Egyptian campaigns. Nevetheless CA declarations are missleading sometimes.

You do know that the big word "COPYRIGHT" slapped all over those images means that you shouldn't really reproduce them, don't you?

I added the big word ''COPYRIGHT'' for its....
These pictures are only helpful for skinners.

Taday CA say ''it's too lat'', but 2 weeks ago they posted not actual screens and said ''there are old graphics, we are working on new uniforms''....

Yep, what's the point KLA, I bet it's to late to make any difference now, full 'steam' ahead for CA, and all that!

No, I said they were old pictures, and that newer pictures would be appearing soon. I never said we were making new uniforms, I said new uniforms had already been made but you had just not seen pictures of those units yet. And you have only seen a few units with the final uniforms so far.

And we have quite a few reference books on Napoleonic uniforms, and it is too late now as art asserts are done for units.

    Hello Jack!

I know you can't answer to some of our questions but look at the topic "wil there be more than 20 units?" I think it' s a real ask of total war players to change this limit. I think the game is now finished but would it be possible to give to modders the way to change this limit. Or, what I thougt, to be abble to control the allied army in Custom battle, in a map 2vs2 or 3vs3...

A lot of us have very good computers and should be abble to make battle with 30unitsvs30 or 40vs30. With my computer, by increasing the number of soldiers per unit, I use to have 30 000 or 40 000 on the battlefield. I could do the same with units. At the end, I would like being abble to change the number of cannons per artillery unit.

    nice,
but most of these pictures are from a much later date, if you want to really be historical accurate its better to look at the drawings made in the napoleonic period itself our just after it,

Jack_Lusted Tell me though, if you saw that at least a dozen units from the first post will be in the game?
Is there a chance that we will see the Russian grenadiers in Mitre cap (Preobrajenski or Pavlov), Spanish grenadiers in high bearskin cap, Polish Guard lancers, Black brunswickers, Spanish Walloon Guards? and some units from the period 1796-1808? I am referring to soldiers with early Napoleonic period, which wore bicorne hats like that in my post. Could you tell us at least some of these units?

In ETW Prussian Jeagers and British Green jackets are from Napoleonic Wars.
