The Secret Service is looking into its security procedures after determining that a Virginia couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, slipped into Tuesday night's event even though they were not on the guest list, agency spokesman Ed Donovan said.

This couple was smart enough to sneak their way into elbow rubbing distance of Joe Biden, several legislators, and even President Obama himself...

but dumb enough to boast about it on facebook and bust themselves. Shows how easy it is for security lapses to happen when a single checkpoint doesn't do it's job.

Some heads of security service detail should roll over this, you cant have people making stupid mistakes like this with security for the president sheesh. Id be less forgiving of the couple if they did it just to attend the party for fun instead of doing it because they are trying to get a slot on a reality tv show. I say claim they were plotting to kill the president and toss them in prison! I HATE reality tv shows.....

So, if these two had had any kind of criminal intent, Nancy Pelosi could have been President today. I have not been fond of Obama's actions so far but keeping this man alive is extremely important. President Biden? President Pelosi? I'd rather have some 2012 fake Mayan "apocalypse."

Considering they went through checkup for weapons, I doubt they would be so die hard martial artists that they could have just killed Obama with flying kick which breaks his neck.

It is quite difficult to kill someone protected by bodyguards if you have to get to arms reach of them. Secret service agents near Obama might pay attention to unknown person trying to get to handshaking distance.

Your opinion is valid. However, please remember that there may still be sharp metal objects around (I doubt these people are eating with plastic forks but I may be wrong), all guests present at the party were on a list probably cleared by the Secret Service, and there may have been a slight level of complacency around (supported by the fact that these intruders managed to get in).

It is very difficult to kill someone with bodyguards. This is made easier if you get close to your intended target. They did manage to hug Biden.

True but look at the pictures, they are taking one with Biden he has arm around the girl. While it would hardly be a sure thing or easy thing people determined to do something without regard to living or dying could have turned a situation like that into something. Even an attempt or an injury on the president or another offical would have been pretty big occurrence. Yes after the fact and looking at it that it was just harmless PR whores we can laugh at it but not taking security breaches seriously or ignoring seemingly innocent screwups tends to lead to bad things. I mean hell what if they were some nutcase pakistani people who thought hey lets knife the India ambassador...another offical they took a pic with arm in arm.

People say that the weapons check would fleece anyone of criminal intent, but remember that this is 2009! The advances in technology are still appreciable, by the year! There are probably hundreds of ways to conceal small bombs in plastic, or plastic guns, for that matter. There are a million ways technology can be diffused or scrambled with better technology, and it can be hidden in a crowd of people. Whatever their intent was, the S.S. would do well to remember that leaps in human ingenuity are making deadly objects ever smaller. This sort of lax behaviour is disgusting.

I may completely disagree with Obama on basically every policy, but murder can never be justified. If that's what this couple's intent had been, we might be speaking of martial law and emergency powers in America at this very moment.
