    Default Limiting certain settlements

Hi to everyone and thanks in advance to all answers!

I thought of limiting certain settlements to develop into large cities... perhaps i should describe it like:
maximum core_building a barbarian faction can build is a governors_palace. i wanted to limit certain settlements not to develop further for all factions, by adding a hidden resource small_settlement to the region and adding this into export_descr_buildings:

proconsuls_palace requires factions { carthaginian, eastern, parthia, egyptian, greek, roman, } and not hidden_resource small_settlement

basically i thought if i put it like that, no faction would be able to build a proconsuls palace if a hidden resource small_settlement is present.

    I got this error:

Script error in \export_dscr_buildings.txt at line 3739
Building db error - faction romans_julii has gap in building prior to imperial palace

so i added the same for the imperial palace:

imperial_palace requires factions { carthaginian, eastern, parthia, egyptian, greek, roman, } and not hidden_resource small_settlement

    Then i got this error:

Script error in \export_dscr_buildings.txt at line 3739 (the last line in the file)
Building db error - culture db max settlement level differs from building db max settlement level for faction romans_julii (bdg city vs clt huge_city)

    What am i doing wrong?

The way I did it for Extended Cultures is used a resource "hugecity" and put it as a requirement for the imperial palace. Leave the resource out of regions you want to limit, and you have your solution. That will be better anyway as negative requirements can mess up the building browser and look like they don't work for the core building as you have found.

thank you very much, it works like a charm. guess i was just being lazy by thinking if "and not resource" didn't work, the "and resource" wouldn't work as well for core_buildings

Yeah, negative requirements for buildings get sort of screwy at times, so it's best to work without them when you can. For units, there doesn't seem to be any problems though with negative requirements.
