Default Macedon came out of nowhere!

    X_X

Finally, Sicily had been secured. Only one rebel city remained. I'd deal with that later I said to myself. I was gathering my Roman legion from there to retrain it back at Rome. In the north, Cisalpine Gaul keeps coming back for more but my northern Italic legion is being retrained. The Italic legion in the east that conquered all of Epiros has finally been retrained and even though it lacks a commander, it sails towards the east for the last barbarian island city near Illyria.

All of a sudden, 4-5 huge stacks of Macedonian troops come out of the woodwork right next to Ambrakia! They declare war on me and sit outside the city...waiting for something. For what, I don't know. The Eastern Italic legion immediately dashes towards the city. I continue retraining, but find I must now build a navy because my economy has gone from 20k a turn to negative 6k in one turn all because of blockades by the Gauls and Carthaginians.

A small Carthaginian force has landed near Lilybeaum and the tired Roman forces on the island who were awaiting a trip back to Rome must now rid them off the island.

Meanwhile, I'm still screwed because my economy is in the red! I have 2 ships making their way down to Sicily to do battle with the blockading Gallic and Carthaginian ships to revive my economy.

Just when I thought I had my eastern borders secure....man, Macedon came out of nowhere!

not to mention that the legion in Sicily is purely Roman. All of those soldiers are hardcore veterans. Their experience ranges from 1-3 silver chevrons. But they can't take too much of a beating. They need to regroup.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Barbarians!!

The Barbarian faction has around two cities left in Iberia, however they have THREE full stack armies near Venetia! And they keep getting closer! Patavium is the first Roman city they'd come across. The Gauls saw the barbarians and built up a huge garrison in Flanonia. However, this just means that I must now defeat the 3 barbarian full stacks plus the gallic garrison!

    What a game!

I was excited about Macedon appearing in my game, but the weak Epirotes thrashed them before they could take any cities. Pity.

They have some elite phalangites, but the majority of the infantry are the Pezheratoi. Their cavalry is made up of the Companions and what I call the companions of the Companions, a type of light cavalry lancer that chases off missiles units to keep the Companions safe. For missile units, they have cretan archers and peltasts. Here are some pics of their troops and some of my troops. The greek force I've recruited was at haste to get as many men as possible down to Ambrakia. The other force is my Eastern Italic legion which conquered all of Epiros.

I like surprises, that's why I love FOE.

    @Lou337,

You should destroy the Gauls long time ago before going to Sicily and Greece.

Lou your in a tactical nightmare, way i see it you've got a war on three fronts and a poor economy. You need to get rid of those blockades. Wait and see what the mace do, if they sit there doing nothing ignore them. Carthage has landed in sicily with a small army you say. You have a force in the region defeat them there using superior tactics and terrain that suits you.The ai isn't too smart. Get as many troops as posisble up to north to deal with the barbaroi and gauls. Hopefully they'll kill themselves, and then you've just got to be the better strategos. Overall unless you revive your economy your toast.

I also love FoE for things like this, it makes it a lot more interesting. Lou let this be a lesson to you. Secure your the direct threat, in Gaul, before launching amphiboius assaults overseas. I am afraid you were asking for this. The ai may not be a genius but it shouldn't be underestimated. It can be evil!

Its not as if they're going to have flying gorgons or hydras or achilles reborn is it? I don't need to see their army to know its gonna be full of pike and decent cav(better than romes inway).
    Hey calm down!
you don't need to be harsh. I'm not that stupid! I know the style of their armies...I just asked because i was hoping to see some new and cool units, maybe some Thracian Prodromoi or Hypaspists. Thats the main reason. I was hoping to see some eye candy (beautiful skins and models, thats why i requested screenshots)

I've gone into positive digits in my economy and was able to isolate a Macedonian army and attack it with two forces. One was the Eastern Italic legion and the other was the force made up of archers and polis hoplites. However, only about half of the force of 1,400 Macedonians were destroyed. Their armies are racing up towards the cities on the Epirote coast.

I've sent two ships down to Sicily to destroy the ships blockading my ports and I'm recruiting another ship for reinforcements. In northern Italy, Mediolanum has been captured. The Barbarian armies are besieging the Flanonia garrison without mercy. I hope they don't conquer the city.

Celtiberia has in their possession nearly all of Gaul and seems poised to destroy the last barbarian town on the peninsula. Carthage has been kicked out of Iberia as well. They control all of North Africa though. I expect more expeditionary forces to be sent to Sicily.

My purely Roman legion in Sicily can take no more punishment. If they do, all those elite soldiers will be wasted down to nothing. They'll be heading back to Rome to rest, regroup, and retrain.

Sounds like your having a rough time of it, but as long as your having fun while still being challenged, thats the main thing.

I havent seen any campaign victory pics yet, I wonder who will be the first to complete FOE?

Well Apollonia has been lost. I made them pay for it though. 337 Illyrian light hoplites held their ground and even destroyed a ram. The enemy suffered 630 casualties. From their first besieging army of 481 men, 319 are left. From their second besieging force of 1,355 about 981 are left.

The Eastern Italic legion and the greek auxiliaries have landed nearby awaiting for the chance to catch one of their armies by themselves.

I feel fairly confident of victory in my Gallic game, but it's been on hold for a few days cause of the hourglass bug. I'll probably play it regardless this weekend. I doubt I'll be the first to victory, but maybe the first with Gaul.

My Eastern Italic legion of 1,199 men and my greek auxiliary force of 1,423 men is about to do battle with a Macedonian force of 1,425 men with reinforcements totaling 2,565 men.

2,600 against almost 4,000. My god, my god. I was able to avoid bringing another Macedonian army into the field of battle which numbered around 1,400 soldiers. This is the best shot I have at destroying the bulk of their force. However, after I finish this battle there still will remain one full stack and 3/4 of a stack.

Here's a shot of the Barbarian hordes wandering around.

And the Macedonians as well as my Eastern Italic legion.

And, the greek auxiliary forces which will support the Eastern Italic legion.

Also, check out Carthage. They've dominated all of North Africa but just recently got kicked out of Iberia by the GIANT that is Celtiberia.

I hope you've got some forts in those Alpine passes! The Celtiberians are going to come knocking pretty soon, if they haven't already
