Rome 2 More Likely Than Modern Warfare
Creative Assembly's Studio Director explains why the warfare of the 20th century and beyond holds no interest...
Creative Assembly was built on ancient warfare, from Shogun to Rome to Medieval, to Empire, and beyond? Well apparently not. In a recent interview with our sister publication Total PC Gaming Magazine, Studio Director Mike Simpson was quick to quash rampant rumour that the developer may have a World War I, II, or even a futuristic III in the works, citing that it would have to be a completely different type of game.
“World War I isn’t fun.” He argues “So you’d probably want to skip over that and go to World War II or modern warfare, and at that stage your battle fields get much bigger. You’ve got where, what we’ve got at the moment is four kilometres or so, you’ve suddenly got 40, or 400. An then if you go up to 40 kilometres you’re talking, rather than 100 men in a unit, it’s a 100 tanks in a unit.”
    World War I isn't fun”

He does concede to the possibility, however, stating that “One day that could happen, it’s one of those things on the list… eventually. Rome 2, yeah… that’s interesting.”
We have to agree, but then, until you try, you just don’t know. If anyone could make that fun, it’s Creative Assembly, so come on guys… why not give it a shot?

Aye, but Nappy is a bit too similar to Empire, with all the pointy shooty stuff, folks may tire of more of the same, and yearn for some good old melee action and manly toe to toe battling .....Rome 2 time!!

Interesting find by the OP +rep

To S-te-Fan [ But not with a whole new engine, features, graphics, etc... ]

If you talking about Napoleon Total War. Then they take things from old total wars and add new ones which probably makes Napoleon a good game. I like Napoleon he was good commander and I hope that the game is better.

Now it seems we have confirmation that ww1 and ww2 are ruled out, at least for the foreseeable..
Maybe NTW is a hint that Rome 2 might emerge as Caesar TW?

Personally, Empire is sometimes more of the same. Rome was a blast trying to conquer the world. It was the first strategy game I ever played. From the first day it amazed me. Empire is stunning and a great game, but hardly as challenging as Rome.

If Creative Assembly produces a Rome with the same base diplomacy as Empire (though better and much improved) and World Map as Empire, then that will be the only game I ever play.

Can't argue with that! And I kinda like the sound of Caesar TW.

Tbh i want something completely new. RTW2 it sounds good, i would probably get it(depends on whether or not i can actually run it on my comp). MTW and RTW were completely different. M2TW hmmm very good but it is just an improvement on M2TW(which did make sense, 'cos RTW is in a completely different league to MTW).

In conclusion, however i would like RTW2 but would prefer something completely new(eg.tkae it back another 500 years otr something, idk) because it would be more original.

Problem CA has got is that if they go too far back in history, combat would basically be punch-ups, chucking stones, and clobbering with bits of wood....Zzzzzzz!!!!
On an Empire style map, factions could be fully fleshed out....and more of em!!

Naval battles at a distance with shooty things...nah. Gimme ramming and getting stuck in.

Pre 800BC would be boring... I prefer to skip the greeks and go to the romans! But then not just like in R:TW. But with much more depth.

How can you say such a thing!? It is true to say that without the Greeks there may not have been any Romans! However i get your point...theres always Persia and they could do Troy total war or something of that calibre. Yes i know there are mods for that but CA don't know that do they...

    Naval battles with rams ftw!

Greeks only fought wars in current greece... Colonising isn't really interesting and you'll only be fighting barbarians and persians.

Greeks fought in Asia Minor , on Sicily(Peloponnesian War) , in Italy (Phyrrus) , Persia (remember Xenophon/Xenophontos, ?) , around the Black Sea , ...

They were aggressive expansionists , not peaceful colonists...

You don't believe me? Read one of the books about Greeks I suggest in the Classic Era link under my sig

Back on topic : Rome TW2 would/will be 'the cool'
