If a mod can't find kingdoms after you did the copy\rename thing then they are installed wrongly (incorrect path).
Opening normal M2 - an issue with the BAT file calling the wrong CFG file, eg a mismatch between BAT command and CFG file name.
Opening a wrong mod - wrong mod path in the CFG file

How would I deal with the last two?

First one - open the bat file by right clicking and choosing 'edit'. Then compare the CFG file's name in there with the actual file's name and make sure they match.
Second one - first check if the mod is in the correct folder, eg mods\mymod. Then open the CFG file with notepad and the mod line entry, it should show the same path.

Note: a very common issue with Steam is that users create a custom launch entry (via steam's game library) to play a mod and forget they still have it. Co check and and remove any entry before proceeding above.

I cannot play battle map sieges anymore. I believe that happened after I updated to Windows 11.
Are any fixes available or do I have to go back to Windows 10 to make it work?
    Other solutions maybe? Settings?

That may rather be a game issue - try verifying the files and set compatibility to Win7

I did the verifying and the fix, but now my mods do not work anymore.
    Have to fix that now.

Got the siege battle working, but everything runs in slow motion on the lowest settings. Close to crashing.
Guess MTW2 doesn't work as well under Windows 11 as under Windows 10.

Weird, why would the mods not work anymore? Have you got some entry in Steam's launch option? If so: remove it. Else describe what happens when you start a mod, and also how you start the mods.

LAA may help with the memory stuff: https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371

My game runs through Steam (definite edition). I got it working again: run the SS6.4 installer and then change the mod name to americas (after renaming the original americas folder).
After the verifying and reloading the missing files I got the siege battles working at least, but very sloooow. So something improved but not workable. Field battles are no problem.

I think its the same stuff that happened with RTW: doesn't work on the newer Windows versions (also MTW1 battles don't work properly anymore on Windows 11).
Some smart guy should develope a fix , like DosBox for the old games.

I don't know what problems I get when I go back to Windows 10. Rather not try that with my little knowledge of software fixing.
Must be something with graphics software. In Windows 10 siege battles sometimes became slower, now they are unplayable.

I'll look into your other suggestions.
Thxs for the help though. I'll let you know.

I had so many RTW mods and I even played MTW1 mods once in a while. MTW2 is still great and has a few great mods.

Maybe someone should let the Steam community know that Windows 11, can cause issues with MTW2 (and MTW1).

Did you get the 'kingdoms.exe not found' message? The ancient way of fixing that was to use a DLC directory as you describe. The latest, and way more convenient, method is to simply copy the medieval2 executable and rename the copy to kingdoms.

That procedure is automated in my repack of Stainless Steel, why it won't work for win11 in your case I have no idea - it's the steammodfixer file in the root of the mod, give it try.

Did you actually try compatibility mode?
