    Default Right then...

    Hi everyone!

Well, after breaking my RTRPE (tried altering the corruption limits), I decided to give in to Quinn and after reinstalling RTW and BI (and going through all the patching), downloaded ExRM 3.5 and then use the 3.5.2 hotfix.

I can see the Roman's starting position appears to be much more difficult. Pyrrhus' army is much bigger, and I approve of the larger starting garrisons in Ariminum and Arretium. Should be some decent battles coming up ! That said, all I've done is start the first turn as the Romans.

I was wondering why Paestum and Corfinium have been added to the Romans from the start? Is this just to encourage a battle with Pyrrhus ? I'm not complaining in any way, just curious.

Are there any specific bits of advice that anyone around here has to offer? Bar upgrading the economic buildings to get some money coming in.

It was to help get that first battle without the need for a script. The problem is that it makes the Romans very powerful if they can get rid of Pyrrhus fast enough, which is a major factor as to why they don't start with Arretium and Arrimium as is the case for FOE.

Keep an eye on the greek cities at all times would be my advice. I have a horrible suspicion the pendulum has swung their way a fair bit this time. You might have to go around and bonk their heads from time to time. Then again if you go take Appollonia from Epirus then you should be ok with keeping them in check. The greek faction we are adding in coming versions should help bring the balance back, if they are actually a problem that is.

Land trade has taken a hit which makes it even more important to manage your economy and armies effectively. Developing economic buildings would be the way to go, however you have to take into account that the money you'll get from such buildings might not be as large as in past versions. As such, auxillia buildings become a bit more attractive in providing troops because retraining your Romans could seriously hamper your war efforts if you aren't careful.

If you're concerned about the GCs being overpowered, taking away Heracleia and/or Byzantion will probably do the trick. A Black Sea trade network probably forms there and brings in substantial money.

    Cheers Carados!

When I get a chance to actually play this I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I suspect I'll be going for a H/M campaign until I get a feel for how it all works.

EDIT: Quinn, cheers for the advice about the GC's. I'll see how I find them. I like the fact that Epirus is now a separate faction! Also, not to be critical, but with the faction icons on the new campaign screen, is there a way to change the ones that currently show as the Brutii and Scipii (I can't remember which factions they are, it might be Britannia and someone else?) to ones more appropriate for the faction?

Cool, I'm glad you're enjoying it so far.

It's Britannia and Galatia. Yes, there is a way to change those, but I kept not getting around to it.
