    Default 100% Spy Death bug

I've noticed something that seems to be a bug or something with the spies that seems to cause them to always get killed.

I'll send a spy into a settlement, and then the next turn if the spy is still in the settlement and it has a 90% chance of success your spy will die every time. At first I thought it was just bad luck, but I've done it over twenty times with twenty different spies with three different factions and it does the same thing every time. However if the chance of success is below 90% it still seems to be random whether the spy succeeds or gets killed, it only seems to happen at 90%.

Ya this happens to me to in all campaigns as well. Usually though the 2nd attempt goes thru. {after you reload} Since I'm a reload Prince anyway, I just accepted this as part of the game and hadn't really thought about it til you brought it up...

No, it's every settlement in which you have a spy and see a 90% chance if you try to re-spy the settlement while still in it. Usually after reloading the spy rolls the normal 90% and does'nt die...

I find them very useful, especially in hotseat campaigns.

I use them mostly as scouts (just to see the terrain and get some free intel by standing right next to an enemy, without actually "spying" on it).

Well if you do a bit of successful spying **cough.. Reload failed attempts...cough** your monarch gets the Spymaster trait which I believe adds +1 command and 10% off agents costs. To some this trait is worth investing in....

I totally agree, actually spying is unnecessary, unless you really want to know an enemy general's traits.

That`s the only setting in which they are useful. Against the a.i with their spawning armies and garrisons they aren`t of any use.

Well that and the overpowered gate opening, ofc.

I like using spy to open the gates of settlements that only have a small force inside but have a large army stationed outside near by. That way I can take the town in one turn and the army near by generally leaves. Or if they don't THEY have to fight there way inside which is usually death for the computer .

The main thing is, I like to get my spies trained with the +5 sight range then link them to the main army so I know whats coming from every direction. Unfortiantly, I've never had a spy past +3 in TATW. I don't suppose there's some way to alter a spy's max success chance to 99% instead of 90%? They'd still have a chance to die, but they'd be worth training up then.

I use them basically for scouting, too, because I don't like to reload all the time. And for money saving reasons I train so few agents that I think I can do without spymaster ability (doesn't it give + personal security not command BTW?)

When I still used more spies I used to train them by spying on useless things, like weak enemy diplomats, enemy armies without a general - that way you can quickly and with quite a low risk level them up.

I too use them to open gates. They don't slow down your army like siege weaponry. You will still loose more men if there are stone walls etc. due to boiling oil.

Boiling oil is both good and bad. It's historically accurate, however it is way too easy to take advantage of. Just have a small group of men stand behind the gate house and hold the enemy at that point. Half the enemies units will be killed by boiling oil and thus rout much easier. Not to mention if your unlucky enough to have your general walk under the gate just as the oil is dropped, it's instant death.

Anyway, back to the spies. Does anyone know how to change there max success to 99%?

Max success can only go to 95%, just as max failure can't go below 5%. I don't think this can be changed...?

PB toyed with 90/10 and 95/5. So it CAN be changed.
