No retreat, no surrender! Attack and crush everything who dear to be in your way!
Well, Mordor is pretty easy.
1. Build up your economy. You have no need for military buildings in inner Mordor, for you already have 4 huge fortresses. Roads are essential.
2. Do the Stuff Gondor would do! Take Osgilitath and Cair Andros, then those settlements in between.
3. Use your Nazgul! Those guys are win incarnate. Use them for devastating rear charges! Don`t forget about their special ability, which lowers Morale. The Witch king has an even more powerful version of that ability.
4. If you aren`t already allied with Rhun or harad, do so. (Never played Vanilla 1.3!) For those guys will guard the unguarded entrances to Mordor.
5. Either try to kill the Silvans early, or as soon as you get trolls.
The number one strategy! ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!! If you defend, you die.
Tnx for the tips, will try Lordinquisitor's strategy!

Okie dokie here we go....
1. Rush to take W&E Osiliath, then turn south and take the rebel castle and two cities before Harad gets them. Also take the rebel castle & town to the NE of Mordor. this will provide you with sealed borders.
2. Truce and trade with Gondor. Let them eat Harad...."their can be only one"...
3. Build up you economy in peace and eat Gondor at your leasure...![]()
I think it depends on the difficulty level....I've had no problems keeping the truce as long as W.Osiliath is stocked with front line troops. After 50 turns of infrastructure building the lull gets quite boring actually....
Once you go to war with Gondor just be prepared for the trade hit you will take...

Yeah thats true i always play on Very Hard
and have you noticed that the harder you play the more areas the AI has and also its more upgraded
not sure.
Right now I'm playing mordor on hard/hard and ain't doin' too bad. If you want a nearly unstopable army just group all eight of your Nazgul into one unit and just start attacking. These guys are nearly unstopable and since they don't rate very high on the threat scale your enemies will send there armies after this stack one after another and get massacured. Best part is, if you have the Nazgul respawn patch (I'm using 1.3 and RC/RR so I'm not sure if just plain 1.3 has it) no mater how many times they kill your Nazgul they'll just keep coming back. On top of that if you activate there special skills all at once you can generally cause your enemies to route in the very first charge
.
im in a mordor game at the moment, turn ~160, i have the lands of gondor, rohan, mirkwood, dale, erebor area, eriador, and now waiting for my stacks for final push to kill high elves and dwarrens......
when.... isengard attacks me at rohan, i sally forth, destroy them, sauron gives me the finger and 'excommunicates' me
next turn, invasion called on minas tirith, harad and rhun ( who have massive millitaries build up because i cut them off from attacking), and OotMM declare war
turn ~185, lost 30 territories
Frankly I think it should me made so it's impossible for Sauron to excommunicate Mordor...after all HE IS Mordor. Besides, I think it would be perfectly relisitic for him to turn against his allies once the good guys have been killed off/weakened to the point that there no longer a threat. Expecially Isengard as they would be the only real consevable threat once the good factions have been taken care of.
Once I destroy Gondor in my campain (there holding onto about two or three lands right now and I'm having a tough time getting to them since the culture is so low in my surrounding cities I have to go practicly all the way back to my starting cities just for reenforcements) I plan on turning against Isengard just so I can see some masive orc vs orc battles.
Definitely use your Nazgul. I just cleared out the Pelennor by slaughtering multiple hundred to thousand man strong Gondorian armies with only five or six of my Nazgul, and no accompanying Orcs. Those suckers will usually get a couple hundred count on both kills and captures for each Nazgul unit.
After getting trolls, olog-hai and dismounted numenorians, you will win almost every single battle, so after a while it becomes repetitive.
If you want more challenge, play as Isengard and take on the high elves.
In that case I recommend you playing mordor on VH/VH
My advice for Mordor would be charge Gondor from the start and never stop charging...
