New Healthcare Plan Brewing in Senate

WASHINGTON – The Senate's top Democrat is poised to outline a new health care bill designed to meet President Barack Obama's goal of expanding coverage without adding to the deficit.


Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada met Wednesday morning at the Capitol with Vice President Joe Biden to go over the game plan on health care. Crucial to the White House and Reid is winning over reluctant moderate Democrats.


Reid wants to bring his roughly $900 billion, 10-year health care remake to the floor in the next few days. The Democratic leader has spent weeks melding bills from the Senate health committee and the Finance panel. Democrats plan to meet behind closed doors to discuss the bill in late afternoon Wednesday.

It appears that the Senate is going to pull out its own version of reform, which could be entirely different from the House bill that passed. The plot thickens.

how can you give government health care and not expand our debt? how do people believe this bs?

People dont believe that atleast according to most polls but its still something politicians keep chirping, no idea why.

What I meant is: when the Senate writes a new proposal, won't the House just vote it down again and create yet another proposal of there own, only to have it voted down by the Senate again which will create yet a another new proposal, etc. etc.

The system seems a bit inefficient to me.

Nah in the end they will work out the differences in the bills unless they are DRASTICALLY different and come to an agreement only way it becomes inefficient if the current speaker of the house decides to be a hardass. Bills that pass the house rarely make it out of the senate as is anyway. There is alot of crap in our goverment but house/senate procedures for bills more or less works as intended.

It won't go to the floor of the house again unless the senate is willing to vote for it.

finance bills do, not these things. I believe the house and senate have to agree before the prez can sign or veto.

Meh, what will happen is that the senate will pass a more conservative bill and then it will go to conference committee. After which it will go back to both houses again to be ratified. Hmmm, the only thing that is up for grabs is how conservative and when.
