Witchking Shish Kebab?

I'm playing a Gondor campaign (VH/VH with RC/RR) and I noticed The Witcking wandering around Ithilien with one group of orc archers with him, so I decided to attack him with my cavalry army led by Imrahil of Dol Amroth (about 500 men). When I was about to charge his puny army I got the message the great almighty indestructible Witch King of Angmar was dead! He walked into his own stakes which were set up by the orc archers . So all that remained was mopping up the rest of his troops. Did anything like this ever happened to you especially with a important character like the Witch King or anybody else important??

Yes unfortunately... when playing as gondor, I had full star, 3 gold chevron Gandalf with 60-strong dol amroth bodyguard, and as I charged some orc archers, their stakes magically appeared one second before impact, and result: Gandalf the White and 60 of the bravest, strongest knights in Arda, now skewered like on a shish. My heart actually stopped as I watched it.
Luckily I had saved before the battle, so all was well afterwards!

In my OotMM game I found Elrond wandering all alone through the Ettenmoors. Of course he made it never back to Imladris...

Yes unfortunately... when playing as gondor, I had full star, 3 gold chevron Gandalf with 60-strong dol amroth bodyguard, and as I charged some orc archers, their stakes magically appeared one second before impact, and result: Gandalf the White and 60 of the bravest, strongest knights in Arda, now skewered like on a shish. My heart actually stopped as I watched it.
Luckily I had saved before the battle, so all was well afterwards!

My best one was when I killed 4 of my own Generals and 2 Ringwraiths in one battle as Rhun. I'd rebelled against Mordor, and had these god awful 10 Star, 25+ Hitpoint Ringwraiths bearing down on me - but to have a chance of defeating them and their armies in a chokepoint, I put 2 Gold Chevron Generals, and 2 Silver Chevrons in, and then invested in buckets of Archers and loke pikes.

Anyway, I play on, and realise that without my mounted Variags, I cannot draw the enemy onto my archers, and they stubbornly sit where they are.

Long Story short, send my 4 Generals to entice them, and it works! So good that I forget I've got spikes in the ground. BAAADDDD idea. 3 Family Members as well =(

well that never happened to me but my general did get killed my a catapult shot during the first seconds of battle one time =P

Hah, whenever I play as Mordor my Nazgul just get assasinated by a Gondor Assassin

Now I save before every turn till Gondor gets wiped out

I've never had anything that crazy happen, but I have had the displeasure of experiencing something similar. I was fighting a huge multi-army battle against Gondor about half way through my Mordor campaign. I had been building up the Witch-king and Dawndeath for the entire game, and both of them were, by now, pretty mighty generals. Unfortunately the Witch-king wasn't close enough to attack my enemies, so his army came as reinforcements. The first thing he did when he arrived on the field was charge a battalion of archers with stakes in front of them. The Witch-king died, and so did half his bodyguard battalion. Suffice it to say, I was not impressed.

i was playing as gondor and i didnt notice the witch king on his way to minas tirith so when he attacked i had 5 units compared to his full stake anyway the orcs got in by ladders and captured the gate house and all there units ran to the gate but i held them back with two units of gondorian spear men then just managed to take back the gate house and then burning oil killed all the orcs that where near inclueding the witch king so all the other orcs routed and i got my self a heroic victory haha

That happens in Rome Total War when playing for Greece, Macedon, Carthage etc. I charge my general into my own hoplites and he dies.

There is no such thing as friendly fire with pikes in RTW.

Usually the sharpened stakes never work..... the enemy just jumps over them.

The witch king usually kills half my army on his own, only to respawn and do it again a couple turns later (RC/RR). Never seen him run into pikes, infact, havent seen any pikes laid out by my enemies yet.
