Default [FAILED] [Citizen] Major Darling (Patron=Carl von Döbeln) 25th November 2009

    PATRON: Carl von Döbeln

Patron: Carl Von Dobeln Greetings honorable members of the CdeC.

I wish to patronise the member Major Darling to the rank of Citizen. Darling is a nice guy with a good attitude and he contributes a lot to the TWC society. He is both a content writer and a librarian and certainly deserves to be awarded with the citizen badge. I hope you agree.

    Cheerio,

    CvD.

    Client: Major Darling

Hello Chaps, Some of you know me well, others not so much. Well for those who do not know me, I am Major Darling and I am here [surprisingly] to Apply for Citizenship.. Why do I deserve such an accolade you ask? Well, hopefully in this passage I shall try and tell you why... I have been a member since May, 'A Newb!' I hear you cry.. I may be a newb (I even stood for Fastest Rising Newb in the Awards) but I am a newb who has learned his way around TWC. I have always tried to peep into the Capitol Buildings and really see what is going on down there and is an area of a site that paticuarly interests me and there are times when I really want to argue for a certain proposal or indeed, against it. But now then, onto my contributions and all that.

When I first joined TWC, I was more interested in the Empire Total War forums.. I joined in fact to complain about a mod, a mod which I then became a Historical Researcher for: The American Revolution mod, created by ToonTotalWar.. Now for this mod I researched lists of regiments in the War of Independence and pictures of them. I am listed as a contributor in the installer.

I have also assisted other Empire Total War mods with Historical research by PM and in their threads.

While I am on the subject of Modding I am also a developer of the GTSK Mod, created by Lord Flasheart which is based on a TWC RPG. For this mod I researched historical paintings, quotes, history and also changed every loading screen quote in game.

Now, a couple of months into my career, I became interested in the Content Branch, I had approached the Helios about a space, but they were full. I then was told to contact B.Ward and within a month I was a member. Since then, I have written 3 ES Issues with a 4th on its way. (1st Issue, 2nd Issue & 3rd Issue) Now with Calvin's Eagle Standard Reform, the ES was split into teams as you know. Calvin was head of my team, the Captain's Cabin and with his sad and sudden passing I was suddenly left in command of the Team (Well, the team being moi )... After that issue I was made Team-lead of the Captain's Cabin and have also become a writer for the Artists Gallery in the ES also.

Recently, I have become involved with the Helios. I approached the publication after Astaroth was appointed Editor and proposed an idea for an article. That publication was recently published and I plan to Write in the forthcoming Issues also. (1st Issue)

Since August, I have been a Librarian which involves hunting across TWC for valuable pieces of writing as well as looking after Legio . Now in the few months of being a Librarian I have had a lot of fun, I am also a member of a committee there which is in charge of rooting out Plagiarism in the Script.

Recently, I have been more interested in Writing. I have a piece of Fiction currently under vote in the Scriptorium with the majority voted "Yes" - It is called: 'Takeoff'. I also have become a writer in the Historical Fiction forum and only a few posts in, it is already garnering positive posts, called 'The Modern British Empire'. I have also just posted my first ever entry for TotW and hope to do it every week...

Now, ever so occasionally I am seen to venture into the Mudpit, although I am not a huge fan of it, sometimes I just feel the need to post there. I am however a regular visitor of the VV and although I never usually participate in debates, I usually post trivia etc. more.

Overall, I feel that I am a positive burden on TWC, I try to be helpful whenever I can, I like to help in the Q&S whenever possible along with any other thread I can understand myself. So, thanks for reading!

I agree with Carl on this one, but I will do my basic checking before making a final opinion.

I like MD and have kept an eye on him for the last few months after reading his first piece. Will do the usual research, not sure if he has done enough but the quality is there.

Gents, forgive the lateness of my reply here. I have been having eye trouble and only spend about an hour a day on the TWC because of it so sometimes I don't get to all of my areas everyday.

Now, as to my disagreement with MD's citizenship. It was dealt with in-staff and therefore quietly. There was no note issued and as some can tell you, no further action was taken by the moderation branch. However, he did willingly lead other members on in making them think he was an alt of someone on this board and was warned against making any such jokes in the future. I do believe that he totted about a message in under his avatar for a spell expressing his sorrow at being caught.

I don't take kindly to folks trying to trick other people; it's a mark of cowardice that they cannot stand and be known as themselves and must instead take on the persona of another. I think a bit more time to reassess his actions and his attitude are necessary before letting this prankster into the citizenry.

I completely agree, thank you for bringing this to our attention noble Basilissa (Empress in Greek) ) I don't think he's ready this go around either so right now it's a no from me.

Yes thank you my Empress. This does shed some light onto the applicant. More time should be called for to see if this member understands what is expected of a citizen. I would never do something like that and wouldn't expect someone that cares about TWC to do it either. Just because no infraction was given doesn't lesson what he did. A no for me.

    Agreed.
A short time on TWC should not be used as an argument against a citizen application, but when there were already some issues with the user in such a short time; it becomes relevant and it works in that members disadvantage.
Maybe he has quickly matured, maybe not. Either way we need to see it to believe it, and this will take some more time.
A pity, really, because at the moment he really is contributing a lot.

When exactly did this impersonation take place, Meg?

I am not privy to the admin conversations on this subject, so I will go with what I do have available to me. The discussion was within an RPG. I do know from personal experience with face to face role playing that acting is a part of the game. There is always the desire to be creative in the matter of role playing.

There is a scene in the movie "Brigadoon" when the young women use fake mustaches and other objects to play act out the roles of men. It is funny and very similar to what happens in role playing games.

The problem with what Major Darling did was to play act about a real member of the forum. I personally try to steer all members away from personal references simply because posts can lead to insults and cross words even when done in a fun and playful manner. Teasing and bullying are really the same except the point of view being the one picked on versus the one doing the picking. That is the problem with Major Darlings role playing in this instance.

It is indeed a demerit in my book. This occured at the very start of September and we are now near the end of November. This is nearly three months ago. We sometimes make such errors and we all can hope to learn from them. However, I will still vote to support the rise in rank to citizen.

I would also add the his patron is a local moderator in the RPG and does indeed support his rise in rank despite the dust up.

I will concede to Jim's information on this. As it now seems to appear, Major Darling edited some Sept 2 posts on Nov 8. This is far too recent and I would like to change my vote to no.

This information is troubling and concerning. Such antics are not what is it expected of a citizen. The members conduct far outweighs any contribution he might have offered the forums.

    No from me.

Viking, I managed to take your vote off the Yes list, but I can't seem to put it back to the No list. Are you able to vote again now in this poll? If so, just vote no. If not, a more competent Hex member will have to rescue me.
