I have exactly the same problem and the solution (steam) works. It is exactly the same to install, only a different install path (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold).

    So;
    Yes
    No
What do you mean? The best version of this mod or the best version to install this mod with?

Mod version: (copied from a post by pannonian)

RTR 6 Gold (6.0 Gold) - The last official release of the 6.x series. This is not modswitch, and it was designed for the RTW 1.2 patch, which has since been superseded. Not recommended.
RTR Platinum Edition (RTR PE) - Porting 6 Gold to the RTW 1.5 patch, which solved the gamecrippling save/reload problem. In later versions, it made its own gameplay modifications to the basic 6 Gold platform, but the very fact that it uses the 1.5/1.6 patch makes it the preferred version over 6 Gold. The last version of Platinum was the 1.9 release, and it uses modswitch.
Extended Realism (ExRM) - This is a further modification of the above series, built on the 1.9 Platinum release. It's recognisably a continuation of the RTR 6.x series, but unlike the above, it's still "live", as it's still being developed. The latest version is 3.5. Uses modswitch.
The Iberian Conflict (TIC) - The first release of the VII series. A mini-campaign set in Iberia, with Hamilcar Barca's Carthage and the Celtiberians as the two playable factions. Uses modswitch.
Fate of Empires (FOE) - The second release of the VII series. A medi-campaign set in the western Mediterranean. Covers the invasion of Italy by Pyrrhus through to the end of the third century BC, at a time when Rome hadn't yet become the undisputed master of the region. A very new release, the community are still exploring the nuances of this mod. Uses modswitch.

You can install all the mod-switch mods at the same time (you probaly knew that already)

    Patch version:

If you use steam, your game gets automatically updated to the latest version (1.6 with BI, 1.5 without (and 1.9 with alexander but alexander is not required so better just ignore it, though install is possible and exactly the same with alexander)) so you can't play RTR Gold but that one is old anyway.

I advise you try FOE. Has huge map focusing on Italy, Iberia, Carthage and a little bit of the balcans. I am sure you wont miss the eastern factions. Is the best mod

I forgot one thing: when using steam, you can't use the FoE shortcut, use the steam RTW shortcut on the desktop but right-click and select properties, then add -mod:FOE to the command line.

ok hear me out on this. ive defeated all of greece and they are down to saryacuse with one family member and 50 troops left. i dont want them to die so i am trying to make them my vassals. im offering about 6 settlements (all their old ones) and 30000 denari as well as everything else i can. but they wont accept! so dose anyone know a cheat to make them accept? i have had them under seige untill their last turn and the have no money. i even used a cheat to raise over a milion denari to give to them but they still wont acept (p.s. i readloded the game to before i had that much went they wouldt accept it). i know cheating is frowned upon BUT it is acturaly dis advantagious to me in this instance. i could just take saryacuse with the full stack waiting at the walls but i want a vassal kingdom. im loosing land, money and power.

    so yeah cliffs
have reduced greeks to one city and no armys / money
    dont want to kill them
they wont become my vassal despite how good my offer is
is there a cheat to force them to accept?

p.s. i tried force_diplomacy accept but it didnt work. is this a mod feature or a BI feature? cheers

I think forced diplomacy only works with the newer mods. You might be able to get the script working for platinum though.

Maybe try ExRM? It looks pretty much the same, it's just... an extension really (hence the name). 3.5.2 should be ready in the next few days however so if you are interested in that it might be best to wait for then, perhaps.

foe has to be installed in the rtw folder. then edit you your shortcut: replace -mod:RTR to -mod:FOE and start BI! if you get the normal rtw startup screen, you have either not edited you shortcut or you don't use BI.

---- ooops I merged Mister S's post with wupwup.....

Yeah its sorted now but kinda ruined lol. It works with bi but i messed up and installed over some normal files so i cant play rtr any more. When i click on the rome icon it ctds saying something about hoard feature being unavaible. Still foe is great it just meens i have to open up steam every time. Im confused about the economy though. Can someone explain quickly how you get reasources? Cheers

It's very simple tbh... If you want to produce goods you will need resources for that. So you either have to gather those locally (just look around on the map... If you see a resource, move your mouse on top of it, and you will get a message about what good you can produce with that resource) or if the required resource isn't present in the region you have to import it. In total you can only exploit three local resources and two imported resources in huge cities. However in smaller towns/villages you may find you have less construction options.

Yeah it seems to be you can "build" a reasource when you grow
