    Default Faction colors

Hello, I have been trying to find the way to change the faction colours in the campaign map. I've had experience doing it on RTW 1.0, where I could find it on descr_strat.

However I have been unable to do the same in M2TW, and I assume that the faction colors are now in another script.

Can someone tell me where to find the faction color numbers? (if memory serves me right, there were 2 numbers: one for primary color and another for secondary color; making both numbers the same would mean that the faction gets a solid color in the campaign map, but not the skins nor the textures).

The reason I want to do this is to make the map look better, without having each province having a separate borderline, but instead making a faction look more united.

Any help or directions are appreciated.

It was never in descr_strat, the faction colours on the campaign map have always been in descr_sm_factions.

Thank you for the correction, obviously my memory failed me.

I found it now, thanks again.

Now the next problem is making it work, since it hasn't changed the campaign map at all. Though it must be because of some basic modding loopholes or something to do with Vista.

For any changes to show up in your mod, your CFG has to have these lines:

    [io]
    file_first = true

Hmm... still no success, I have been looking around for the answer, but nothing has worked yet.

I think there is also something to do with the way Vista handles the files.

Please tell me the path to the descr_sm_factions file you have modded.
Accordingly I can tell you about the previously entry into the cfg file.

    Example:
    ...Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age\data\descr_sm_factions.txt

Your cfg file with that entry from the previous post should be here, same as the bat file:
    ...Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age\.....cfg

I have only tried modding the Vanilla version, so it should be as normal

    ...Medieval II Total War/data/descr_sm_factions.txt

I have no mods save for Retrofit(not counting the Kingdoms expansions).

Then those two lines should go into ...Medieval II Total War\medieval2.preference.cfg

There is only one thing: the game will delete your entry in that file - you will have to make it read-only.
Simply right-click the file (after saving it with those entries) choose 'properties' and tick mark 'read-only', then click 'apply' and 'ok'

    Tried it. Still no results.

Seems I will have to get the .cfg checked to see if there is something I've been doing wrong.

Tell me if there is something wrong, maybe something is also wrong with the descr_sm_factions.txt

my opinion get out of Vanilla!
    1. first make sure you have unpacked games files( Sega medievalII/tools,run the unpacker bat.)
    2. now that the game is unpacked go into Sega/medievalII/data and delete the two desc_geog_new files
    3. now download and install GiGantuses` "Bare Kingdoms" (any editing you want to do,DO HERE!)
it is best after you have copied the "world folder" into Bare kingdoms/data you then download and install geo-mod
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=201955

gather any file it asks for from vanilla put them in the corresponding folder in your "bare Kingdoms" if it is in a folder which is not in "Bare Kingdoms" I suggest you copy the whole folder into "bare Kingdoms"
once done in Geo-mod you can not only edit the map and other elements of the game
But choose faction tab select faction and in the lower right you can now expiriement and save campaign strat colors
    good luck!
