which side would you fight for in Spanish civil war

Inspired by some guy's post in my previous closed thread I decided to open new one about Spanish civil war. So which side would you fight for, for the republicans or the nationalists? And please specify for which particular group within specific side would you fight for, for example: Falange, communists, anarchists etc. I would fight for republicans, specifically for Basque national party, I heard that they had some elite unite where only man taller then 180 cm could join in.

But you'd be willing to join forces with them against democracy anyway...

A democracy that was inherently unstable and unable to rule, maintain order or any economic or political progress to the country. Not to mention that the communists were the dominant faction on the republican side in later war years. So if they had won, I doubt a democracy would have come out of it.

Well, they lost, so I would not join loser, since that means lost my loots.

The problem of Republican was that its armed force was barely organized, hence when Nationalist attacked, most Republican militia ran off quick enough.

I would probably stick with Spanish Foreign Legion, since been a foreigner it was the best choice to make (not to mention Foreign Legion was the few elite troops among Spanish Civil War).

One part is the democratically elected government bent on improving the lives of the poor and the other is a mishmash of nationalists, fascists and militarists.

Which wouldn't have happened if the murderous and autocratic nationalists hadn't had such a hard time understanding the basic principles of democracy in the first place. The rivalry between the fractions that made up the Republic's backbone was a direct result of the nationalists revolting against the government and consequently the former Entente's inability to support a fellow democratic nation.

No, you would be fighting for fascists and militarists backed by a corrupt clergy against a coalition of secular forces concerned with upholding the fragile Spanish democracy.

The Communists were only catapulted into massive popularity once it became evident that the Soviet Union was the only great power concerned with defending the Republic. But that aside I find it quite telling that you would readily sacrifice democracy in favour of economic progress under an oppressive dictatorship.

Neither, really. The Carlists, Falange and other Nationalist factions were madmen and I don't like Communists or CNT either, not to mention the fact that the Republicans were poorly prepared and fighting against the aforementioned madmen isn't really a good idea.

Actually the republic wasn't communist nor anarchist, the ruling parties were left centrist and socialists, generally communists and anarchists were as much lethal for the republic as the monarchists were, the difference being that they were destroying it from inside.

Hey, was that me. I hope it was. I really do like the Republican Spainish I would have joined one of the British Brigades sent over there anyday. What they stood for was correct. They were democratically elected in and the terrorism was caused by the Nationalists. Its a shame Britain didnt support them like the Nazis did the nationaists.

My answer is the Republicans. And I would most definitely be the member of the International Brigades if we were to relive the 1930s of the last century.
