Default Where are our female Generals?

I was wondering, I have not yet found a female player that did one of the Total War series. Would it be a genre that does not appeal to women gamers? Or have they been in our midst all along. If they have been, I wonder if there is a different factor of appeal compared to our male specimens?

Threads like these generally don't last very long, but to answer your question there are some female gamers on the site. You'd need raw statistics to conclude that female gamers are disposed to not playing the Total War series, and there's no real way to get those. Then whatever conclusions are drawn from that are only truly useful to game developers.

no time to play, too much to mod...

(I suppose stereotypically less women are interested in military history and that might put them off getting started with the game, once you have the game I don't see why it should appeal to other women any less than to male players)

I think women are more action-orientated, meaning they will more likely play sports games or shooters or something. Then again, I don't know anything about women (when it comes to gaming, or just in general ).

Thinking things in a generalizing sense is punishable in at least 16 districts of the internet. Run!

And in my opinion women prefer games like Sims and Spore Well, those are the games that my girlfriend is playing.

So it's pretty ironic that the best modder around atm is a lady.

In contrast, I found a larger population in the RTS, with titles such as Starcraft and the sorts(multi tasking at it's best?). I might have posted this thread in the wrong forum, I simply looked at General TW discussion and neglected to read the smallprint below it xD

Most of the women gamers I know play COD games. I guess the closest to RTW I know that is popular among my female friends is Company of Heroes.

The lady generals on the TWC are probably playing and modding away! and keeping their heads down, In case a male general tries to outflank them!

No disrespect to KK, great modder for sure, but with MoN retired Mak's imho the undisputed real deal atm.

Some generalisations (they are a necessary part of the thought process):

    Women prefer casual games.
They are not given toy guns/soldiers at a young age.
Society pushes women into roles that aren't usually leadership ones.
    They prefer socialisation.
Game developers are slow to see them as a market.
Female-starved male gamers can be off-putting.
Their boyfriends may play games to the exclusion of socialising with them.
Women's interest in history may include things other than war and conquest.

These are all just possibilities, and obviously any women here would break any or all of them.

    A brew is a man's job.
I lived with a lovely pair of British ladies for a while, and I was designated tea maker. They were quite impressed by my skills actually, seeing as I was "ORstralian" (In my best BBC radio 4 accent) and didn't actually drink tea... I did, however commit the felony of leaving the teabag in when I served it first time...Oh the humanity!

In case a male general tries to outflank them!
    Lol!

I taught a female work mate how to play. She was a Brit as well. She had a room mate who used to play RTW constantly but wouldn't give her a go. So she'd watch him play. I lent her my game and she played it for a while. Then she moved on to GTA.

I thought Makayane was a werewolf, albeit with great modding skills...

I've made a lot of them, can I have a head start?

Total war games is a man game. I've been playing total war since 2002 I never seen a girl playing it or even interesting to know about it. which makes me assume that gamer girls don't like strategy games in general.
