    Default Prevention of Unwanted Reinforcements?

Is there a guaranteed method of preventing unwanted AI reinforcement armies from partaking in battles...esp sieges?

Hours of planning and scheming on a siege can be ruined by an unwanted AI reinforcement army showing up on the other side of the enemy town, storming in, slaughtering the enemy, and leaving the player with nothing else to do but watch.

Looking around, I see a suggestion to multiple select/deselect army boxes and 'hope for the best'.
Not much point plonking about on the campaign map with below-par troops or mini-stacks, and it's highly annoying and a waste of time to see a jolly good siege trashed by uninvited guest ai armies.

The obvious answer is 'dont use reinforcements'....but that aint the question!

Make sure you have a full stack of 20 units and make sure AI controlled reinforcements box is unchecked. Then even if they do arrive they can't enter the battlefield unless you lose a unit, in which case you will get it replaced by a reinforcement one.

Alas, that's what I aim to do, Total Roach. I dislike any AI army (except the enemy!) trying to ruin my carefully planned sieges, and I have a full 20 unit stack with the intention that any reinforcements are filtered into the 20 card slots as other units bite the dust or rout off.

I ensure the ai army boxes are unchecked prior to battle, to keep the ai armies off the battlefield and only filter in slots.

Annoyingly though this method often fails, and a seige begins with an uninvited/unwanted ai army appearing on the other side of the battlefield...in they storm and trash the enemy, leaving me, the master seiger, with nothing to do but watch

I've seen a suggestion somewhere to repeatedly click select/deselect ai army boxes to achieve the required result and 'hope for the best' that it works. That seems a bit hit and miss.

Hmmn I think I might know what the problem is as I have experimented with this before: When the battle screen comes up if you check what the enemy army consists of (screen pops up with info on the right) then when you close that to start the battle check and uncheck your reinforcement AI control box again even if it is already unchecked. Should solve the problem, if not, well can't think of anything else mate, good luck with it

I second that what Total Roach said.

Make the check/uncheck stuff at the very last before you enter the battlefield and do not
observe the enemy armies after that anymore. If you still want to have another look at your
enemies, then do the check/uncheck stuff once more (or twice).

Sounds like top-tips chaps reps dispensed. It could've been that peeking at the enemy screen factor thats been catching me out and causing probs. I'll rustle up a few old campaigns and see whats what.

If you have an ally you want to knock off, whilst nicking their settlement, make sure they have siege equipment, then besiege the city. They wil go in and get massacred, and you don't have much to mop up.
In EB I did that for Rhegion and Taras.
    Rest in peace, Calvin.
