How to Survive TW MP Clan Life
    An Short TW MP guide
    by
    |Sith|3|DarthWarman88

    I. What is an clan?
II. Why should I join a clan?
III. How to find an good one.
IV. How to join/apply to an clan.
    V. What to do when you in.
VI. Advantages of being in an clan.

    I. What is an clan you might ask? This is really simple. An clan is an group of players that play an game together online. They can be big or small. Some are lead by one person, other by one person and an high consul (like Sith) or some are run by an purely democratic fashion, depending on their needs. All online games have clans. In certain games, they are called "teams", "squads" or "guilds", but in most games, including Total War, they are called clans.

II. Why should you join one? Joining an clan makes playing the game online more fun. It will make you more known in the community, and you can make new friends online. Plus, you can play in many more tournaments like team tournaments that you won't be able to join by yourself.

III. When you go looking for an clan, you must look at several things depending on your interests. If you want an medium or an big clan, check their member list first to see how big they are. But if you want an small clan, you should do it also to double check. Afterward, see what you like. If you want an clan that has no "central" leader, or one that has medals to earn for doing certain things on the game online (Like Sith has medals they hand out when you complete certain tasks). Some clans are real serious, so if you an serious tournament players, join them. If you in an middle, find an average clan then. If you an laid back person, perhaps an smaller clan is right for you.

IV. You can join or apply to an clan in an few ways. One way is to ask an member to do an clan tryout with you. This is to see if you are good enough to join. Sometimes you might have to fill out an form first on their clan website before they do it. Sometimes they might do an "Best of" series and let you know in an few days, or, sometimes on the spot. Other times, some clans, like the Arcani clan, put you though an "boot camp" to make sure you are 110% loyal and serious to the clan. If you get in, Great! If not, keep on trying, do not give up. It takes time to join an good clan sometimes.

    V. Enjoy yourself! Get to know some of the members, especially the high ranking ones. Then start playing. Do some 1v1's and team games with your new clan mates. Perhaps you can join some team tournaments with them and impress them that way. It all depends on what you like to do next. Besides, it might be fun to win an 1v1 tournament:

But sometimes it is better to win an CWC clan tournament!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

VI. The advantages are the following:

You can join team tournaments now.
You can have people help train you.
You can make new friends online.
You will advance your name online.
You can play with more people online.

There are countless advantages in joining an clan.
I hope this short guide will help you in your TW MP career!

This is the part I've never understood about clans, holding so called try-outs. If a clan is just starting out, the tryout is usually a shame, because they're desperate for members and they'll basically take anyone. The tryout is nothing more than going through the motions and even if the candidate falls flat on their face, they still won't get rejected.

Then assume that the clan is well established and the tryout is really an actual means of evaluating skill level. This means that they are looking for only "good" players, which negates the benefit of joining a clan to learn to become a better player. Kinda a catch-22, you want to join a good clan to become a better player, but you can't pass the tryout since you're not very good.

Not so much that. An good clan won't do that. An good clan will let you in as an "cadet". Say, for 1 month. If you advance, both in skill and dedication to the clan, that is what they look for, then they promote you to full member for example. Usually the smaller clans do the 1 or 2 game tryout stuff.

alot of clans take players they just like though. and a lot of clans have a wide range of skills among their members. in 1* most of the players were good, but that wasn't really the criteria to get in. to get in all that you needed to do in practice was have 1 person invite you and then nobody else object.

Well in GODS clan it takes a very small criteria , all u needed to do was show us your honorable skills on the battlefield and if you show talent and competence your in. Although, if you do not play with the clan much, you are threatened with being kicked. That's why we usually fluctuate in numbers around 25-35 people at once. Our clan has been strict or unhonourable at times, but we try not to hold grudges. Good clans show respect even when losing like 1* clan and many others. Very few dishonorable clans survive.

Oh, BTW, does anyone else hate when ppl make "wars" with clans?? For some reason I just really get agitated... maybe its just me... luckily no clan has made "war" with GODS clan. Although one clan has tried but i just gave him an ultimatum that if he beat us in a 2v2 that the "war" would begin but if not, than he must not even try. We destroyed the guys yay!

Clan wars at one time wee popular because it would increase the winning clan's popularity. The loser clan is suppose to "disband". Back in the day they did, but now a days, since most veterans are gone and there are younger, more immature players today, they don't typically disband their clans, or if they do, not when they should.

The old clan wars with the rule that the looser clan has to be disbanded was all ways crap and nonsense.
Clan “A” wins war against clan “B”, so clan “B” has to be disbanded, nice …. And then? What will hinder clan “B” to regroup under a new clan name? Nothing and that was what happened and why this system was finally crap.

But also today any clan war is also crap. Clan “A” gets in dispute with clan “B” and what will happen? Some battles will be made but with no final result in term of winner and looser. Beside this is all ways a cascade of insulting each other in the lobby which is finally only boring for the rest of players.
A good example of such a typical “new clan war” was in RTW between AoE and CoH!

Conclusion: Clan wars were, are and will be only crap and pointless!

However, to be member in a clan has much advantages as they are named here. There are many clans and most are still living only a few weeks before disbanded because no structure etc.
I was over years member of the Black-Knights and then leader of the clan Antiquae for 2 years before I retired of personal reasons. I still play sometimes MP in TW games and here we made a “non clan community” of friends with name Garde du Corps. It’s only a name to form a friendship with mostly interior behaviour (internal tourneys and gaming).
Such a form of clan is also ok and possible in my eyes.

    Remark:
I’m as veteran personal tired of the nonsense in the lobby with the insulting and bullpeep talking of some kids. I want to play games with friends and honestly / gently players to have fun. If I win its ok, also if I loose.
Funny was, that when I changed player name from {Antiquae}Mandelus{Kon_Ldr} to [GdC]_Mandelus in RTW lobby, some people didn’t remember me and only after telling them who I am (or better was) and so on, everything was ok and many asked me to join their clan now.
This shows a clear picture: A clanless player –I name them “no names”- has a difficult live in the lobby of RTW to enter good games with clans, because mostly kicked or even invited in a closed game.
In ETW it is easier on the first view, but on the second view we see, that most games of clans are closed by PW. So also an advantage given to be member of a serious clan.

To be in the Seattle Steel Clan it is quite simple as well just like the Gods clan. All you must do is prove your self on the battle field. the only difference is that we do not kick you if you are bad but we train and help you to become a better player. We accept all and will change your record what ever it be to a winning one.

That is what I mean. You don't have an website, You don't have an forum. Most clans do not survive without an forum at the minimum. Your members have to get together somehow. How can you even organize your clan without an forum and/or website? No wonder these types of clans don't last more then a month or two.

We use the steam group chat all the time we use steam voice chat. But you might be right about the forums or website thing, we will get on that in a month or so!

Personally when i was leader of FTR, the clan website was pointless and we mostly just talked through steam.
I find it much easier, efficient and quicker Instant messaging people and posting announcements via steam then worrying about the next time someones gonna post on a forum.
    IMO.

I just think it is important to have an site or something for clan history, awards, messages to your members if you can't get to them though steam, xfire or e-mail,etc...

The one problem I really hate is how clans kind of sprout out of nothing and just steal members slowly... Lost 4 players in the past two months to two clans that just appeared because someone wanted to make their own clan.. They have no respect for a clan that has lasted a year now and are all friends.
