Ending the Canadian Monarchy

The recent visit of Grand Moff Charles to his imperial domain has brought up the question of the Monarchy and Canadians. Most Canadians seem to be indifferent towards the monarchy, and this indifference includes people who do not want it anymore and people who want to retain it.

Do you think Canada should retain it's monarchy?

If so, should it keep it as is, or should it adapt it so it can have a more unique Canadian function so as to actually reflect Canadian identity?

If not, how do you suggest Canada goes about being a republic? Should it be a parliamentary one and simply have an elected President function in all the roles of the Monarch, or should it become an American-styled Presidential Republic?

Well, since Canada doesn't have an absolute monarchy... I'd be indifferent to any changes in my life if it became an American-style republic or not.

Having a figure head monarch is useless. I don't understand why many nations even retain. It's nothing more than a family getting practically everything for free and basically 'advising' policy makers.

Why upset the status quo? And besides, it's something that sets Canada apart, as the only monarchy on the American mainland. A reminder of it's heritage and past. Why rock the boat?

As a Brit I would be very sad to see Canada abolish the Monarchy as its one of the things that closely links Britain and Cananda culturally. Same with the rest of the Commonwealth Realms.

It is also, like other posters said one of the things that makes it unique in North America. Some people call Canada America's hat (Or something along those lines)- wouldn't you rather be America's crown and keep you seperated from American culture? (I know you have already adopted a lot of american culture, but this is one of the few things making you truly different)

My vote should be obvious when one considers the obvious fact that Democracy is evil. Liberalism has destroyed the core of human morality, art, ingenuity, economy, and industry. All of the slogans about how free we are begin to wear on me when it's obvious that none of us are free under the tyranny of Democracy. Every sign points to the voting booth, where only Hell awaits!

Anyway, is this a surprise coming from me? I chose "alter it..." because I want to expand it, and bring Canada back into England's colonial purview. No more of this independence nonsense.

The only thing I can think of removing in relation to the Monarchy is abolishing the Govenor General, considering its wasteful. On the other hand, that power has to go somewhere, so I voted "dont change a thing".

It'd be sad to see the monarchy in Canada go, it's one of the things that separate you guys up north from us - that and I'm a stickler for tradition Anyway, as others have said already, why change it? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Of course the money being tunneled towards such an institution is negligible when compared to the national budget, but I don't like the idea of people being rewarded for... what exactly was it they actually did?
